You schedule a fake appointment with your therapist at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA so you can rationalize ditching work to ride. Can you believe that he moved the lunch meeting site to Chimney Rock Mtn Overlook on the Blu Ridge Parkway…the nerve! 
You are up before daylight, wearing a headlamp, putting the finishing touches on an iced over driveway after laying awake all night questioning whether after 4.5 months you can ride that tight of a line. Otherwise your azz will be toast within 100 yards of the garage.
At your first stop 90 minutes from home you reach for your missing wallet, realizing that your cards, license, bike papers and spending money are still on your dresser along with your cell phone and camera. Thankfully you know you are a confirmed air head, so at least you have spare cash stashed on the bike. Note to self…copy the damned credentials and stash on bike.
At that same stop, you discover that your well engrained habit of placing your bike key in your left front pocket has slipped away over winter, leading to an “Oh s*&t” pocket search.
You establish that VDOT is all over and in a full scale active fashion pulling the ditches along VA 56 making for a very challenging journey up to the Parkway.
The ice walls on the north sides of the mountains up on the BRP look like retreating glaciers.
The frost heaves and newly sunken potholes on the BRP ensure that you limit rubbernecking.
You finally encounter a clean stretch of twisties only to find that you have absolutely no concept of how to ride them and make 3 passes before beginning to understand.
You determine that riding that required tight line at the mouth of the driveway after the center strip has thawed all day is a LOT more challenging going downhill.
I had a 350 mile FJR all backway absolute blast!!!!!!
