Has anyone found a way to keep the mirrors tight so they don’t get out of adjustment riding on rough roads ? I’ve had this trouble before and it sure would be nice to know if someone has figured out a way to keep them from moving

Move the rubber cover to access the lock nut. Lock them secure enough for rough riding but loose enough to avoid breakage in a tip over.

I don't think I even used a wrench. Just turned the locknut, and pulled the stalk back until it was tight. My problem mirror was the right side. I've adjusted both where they are straight out to the sides. It give the mirror a great field of view with their shape.

Are you wanting to tighten the swivel at the mirror head? If yes, then just grab the mirror and rotate it right hand. When it gets to the point of being snug then loosen the locknut at the bottom of the stem and rotate the shaft and mirror until it's aligned where you want it.
Don't make it too tight, you want it to fold if you drop the bike or the mirror could break.

^Yup, this. Just twist the whole right mirror head around clockwise (as standing on the right side of the bike) until it tightens up. I just had this same issue earlier this summer and discovered this method. If you don’t get it too tight you should still be able to aim it without loosening the stalk.

I replaced my mirrors with the ones from Amazon that use the RAM fixings. A lot more stable than the originals; look better; and able to be adjusted easily.

Doubletake Mirror - Indestructible Motorcycle Mirrors - Adventure Set

Don’t panic at the price as it is in Australian dollars (aka The South Pacific Peso)

Thanks for the tips, the problem isn’t at the top of the mirror stalk its at the bottom by the big 17mm nut, we finally got off the extremely rough road to Prudehoe Bay and back and after tightening the nuts again the mirrors haven’t moved any more. I do have mirror extensions that move the mirrors out a couple inches so that probably adds to the problem, I like the extensions but maybe after getting home I will try riding without the extensions .
