My day was made when the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) overflew us on their way to London. Spitfire, Hurricane and a Lancaster bomber. What a sound and sight. I think these aircraft were taking part in the flypast for the royal wedding.

I saw that on TV. Love the sound of those old warbirds!

They flew a four jet formation over also. I think they were Typhoons.

Last year on our way from the Grand Canyon NP, we spotted a P38 buzzing around. First time I had ever seen one in the air. Very cool aircraft.

There's something about a piston engined fighter (radial or v12 sound), that just flat out blows my skirt up.

If I could afford it, I'd have a Spitfire, Corsair, Mustang (the RR V12 blown engine made that what it was, BTW), and probably a P-40 just for good luck.

The Brit Rolls Royce V12 design holds top honors amongst WWII fighters, IMHO. Here we are, 60 years later, and the RR V12 is still venerated for its durability, performance, torque and horsepower.

Cool stuff!

Couldn't agree more on the distinctive sound of the piston aircraft engines. I'm sure there are many, but locally, in Reading PA, they have an air show/WWII weekend every year on the weekend closest to D-Day 6th of June. Not only do they do the reenacter thing with complete WWII villages and pitched battles, but also a fairly impressive airshow. Nothing like hearing the sounds (and smells) of a B17 starting up on the runway. They also have quite an attendance of B25s and various fighters. I really like the sounds of radial engines, there's nothing that comes even close. I attended a few years ago andwould put it in the top five must-dos in the state, and we have quite a few top drawer must-dos. I'll try and upload the photos to my Photobucket account soon. Take a peek if you're interested.
Being retired military of retired military of retired military (it seems that's the family business) I got a back seat ride in a fighter as an eleven year old while my father was stationed in Roosevelt Roads PR, but I still get more of a a thrill from the older radials than a jet. I found out, as my neighbor/the pilot said: with enough horsepower, a brick can fly; but nothing matches the sound of WWII piston engines.

There is very little better than the WWII piston aircraft! DROOL!!!!!

Thought this might be a nice place to share something I did just a couple years back. Now, it may not be a piston driven but.............

A little backstory to those who don't know me. At the time of this "event" I had been diagnosed with a 2 to 5 year life expectancy from a horrible disease called ALS or Lou Gehrig's just one month prior. It was truly bucket list time!!!! Many months later, and a very extensive neck surgery to boot, I am no longer facing this and am back doing life, albeit with a unique perspective from most.

I hope you enjoy!

Right you are: most don't appreciate what they have anywhere they are. It is indeed a blessing to be able to grasp that.
