I tried a few searches but did not find the answer. Has anybody weighed the stock silencer and an aftermarket silencer and can tell me how much weight can be reduced by switching?

stock exhaust systems weigh what they weigh , assume your asking about our tenere , its heavy, quiet, does its job.... replacing the exhaust muffler with a slip on will save some weight , probably about half what stock muffler weighs.... the bike weighs about 600 lbs so saving 6 to 8 lbs is not that helpful if your looking for a performance edge... I could save a lot of weight on the the bike and improve performance in a big way with no added cost just by me losing 50lbs , because I'm a fat boy.... now changing to an after market slip on exhaust can free up a few hp, and wake up the neighbors when you leave for work .... make the bike sound like a bike , so I'm suggesting focus in that direction , an after market " can " that will make you smile..... if you can save an extra 8lbs on your ktm 500 your doing some thing , most people keep adding stuff to the tenere making it heavier still so saving 8lbs is nothing....

Stock muffler 13,1lbs
Akrapovic Carbon Titanium 8,7lbs. (1040-S-Y12SO2-HAAT)

You save 4,4lbs.

I made a switch 2 weeks ago. Sound is very good, not too loud.

I still have the stock muffler , been thinking about a slip on but have not decided as to which one.... I am intrigued with the idea of adding a 2 brothers , it could be to loud or it could with insert ( db killer ) be just right... I read different revues from owners , some love it some do not..... I'm thinking of doing something soon , just to make bike sound better and a little new to my ears.... and spending lots of money to do this , well , that doesn't interest my wallet.... or I may do nothing at all.... any one had a two brothers on their tenere , let me know what you think.... or how it was..... my neighbors bed room is by my driveway....... I leave early.... if it pisses him off that might be a plus... but he isn't all that bad as a neighbor....hhhmmmmm.

The weight saving is minimal in effect, given the weight of the rider/luggage/passenger, as is any perceived performance gain; it's really all about aesthetics/sound & your personal preference.

In Europe, we are seeing anti-tampering laws emerging in some countries, in an effort to clean up air quality, so exhaust changes (cans & de-cat headers) could become a thing of the past unless they are formally type approved. I believe CA has similar rules - what about elsewhere?

Hello Madhatter. I have used a Two Brothers slip on muffler for about 50,000 miles now. I am very pleased with it. I don't think it is too loud but will it will get some bark to it when the bike is ran hard. It has a very nice sound just cruising along. It is a lot lighter than the stock muffler but I can't say I can feel that riding the bike. I also can't say it adds any power. Just a nice sound. That works for me. Also it seems to be holding up very well. I really like that.

thanks cyclemike4, ive had my bike 5 years now , what I enjoy about the motor is the growl , but the stock muffler really stifles that . not sure when but sometimes later this summer or fall I think I will give it a try.... it will be a treat to my ears .... my neighbor is going to hate it...

I really like the Leo. Nice tone. Not loud. Looks good. Fit and finish are good.

I'm just unloading aftermarket parts from bikes to pay for land cruiser parts.

Thanks All, I was really hoping to get at least 10 lb. savings by changing pipes but it looks like that was totally unrealistic. Looks like the only way to get any significant weight loss would be unit replacement. Neither my wife or I are heavy people so we can't achieve it by more time in the gym either.
