Hi, just wanted to share my work around ignition coil and spark plug cavity water ingress.

Before I tried putting silicon to stop water from seeping in but without any luck. Tried this before my last 1800km trip and it worked wonders. Not a single drop of water went down to the chamber.

And we did some serious water crossings with water knee height. Any comments.

It doesn't look elegant, but i guess it's worth a try, water ingress is driving me crazy.
Is that regular plumbing tape?
How is it handling the heat?

Installed the fender extender, zip ties on the rubber caps, dielectric grease, silicone, and water still finds a way inside somehow

I am on my third tour after using the sealing tape. Will post a picture after I return, but so far no damage to the tape whatsoever. And more importantly no water ingress.

As for the tape, you can see which tape I am using. I believe it can withstand higher temperatures.

I have searched for tape and do not see. Where do you buy it from?

Use any teflon tape. After more than a year, there is no visible damage to the tape or the coil.

Thanks.
I have teflon tape but is very thin. Image of your roll says .25MM thick. I measured two different rolls I have at .075MM.
This teflon tape is a thread sealant. Is there a thicker teflon tape for other application that you are using?

Honestly, I don’t think it would matter, the main aim is to keep the water from dripping down the coil chamber. Just make sure there is a tight fit.

Sorry for the late reply, yes regular plumbing tape. And surprisingly no damage to the tape after almost a year.

Thanks again.
I am from USA and my Super Tenere is in Osh, Kyrgyzstan so I am not able to try a product and then try something else a week later.
Your image says 20 meter long. When you did all coils, how much of the roll/ rolls did you use?
Again, sorry for all the details. I need to carry everything with when I fly back in May.
I am also working on my CPD for Pakistan. If all works out, I will get in touch so I can thank you in person.

First of all, you don’t need that much of the tape. I kept it wide and thick, but you can do with less width if you think plumping tape is running out. Additionally I think you would be able to find similar products in Kyrgystan.

Secondly, definitely get in touch when you are in Pakistan. The riding season starts in march till Oct so plan some time to ride. If you haven’t done that already, you’d love it. There is a vibrant adv community in Pakistan and we often ride in groups all over.

I have kept a spare set of coils since the first time I experienced water ingress. So I used this tape on all 8 coils and still had 1/3 left over.

Looking forward to this summer. Will keep in touch.
I notice your English grammar is very American. Are you using a good translator or do you know English? Did you live in USA before?
