This route will be the last part of Day 2 of a test trip.

Have any of you ridden either or both of these routes?

http://goo.gl/maps/PqcB

I have attempted USFS Rd 1 three times (June) and found Titlow Hill Road blocked with snow each time.

Have never ridden Van Duzen Road or anything in that area. Is it 600 pound bike rideable?

Thanks for your input.

Alittle late with a reply, but FS 1 is now open all the way thru. Van Duzen is a fun road and should be no problem for your bike. As you probably know if you foolow Van Duzn down to Zenia you can loop around to 36 or head back towards Garberville. Heading towards Garberville also opens up a lot of options, Shelter Cove, Wilder Ridge over to honeydew/Petrolia and then the Lost Coast. I ride these roads quite often on my KLR and you should not have any problems on the S10. Hoping to be a S10 owner in the near furture.

Thanks Bill. Good to hear FS 1 is open. Let me know if you are up for a FS 1 ride. Thanks for the other suggestions. I am not familiar with Wilder Ridge. Is it a ridge or a road?

While searching maps I look for backroads, loops and out of the way things to see. While searching the Garberville area. I am familiar with Dyerville (retired from California State Parks and used to run the Avenue of the Giants Half Marathon that started and ended at Dyerville) and decided to make a loop to do while in the area http://goo.gl/maps/rNcS . I don't know how Dyerville Loop Road is but if you haven't ridden it before the Avenue of the Giants is a ride that you don't want to pass up.

Another favorite road of many is Mattole Road http://goo.gl/maps/jW67 . I have missed this ride a few times because of time or weather but mainly time. What about this loop http://goo.gl/maps/S7Fv ?

Iam very familiar with all of the roads you mentioned Tim, and you are correct they are all great back road trips. The Dyerville Loop is fun, I usually catch it on the nortrh end near Founders Tree. It is a combinattion of pavement and some dirt all doable this time of the year. Wilder Ridge Rd is pavement all the way from Honeydew to Shelter Cove Rd. There is a short section maybe 1 mile or so of gravel/dirt switch backs also very doable even in the wet. The loop from Ferndale to the Lost Coast area then to Petrolia/ Honeydew then following Mattole Rd. over to 101 and or the Ave. of the Giants is a great ride also. Another geat ride for me is Alterpoint Rd. it runs from HWY 36 at Bridgeville ovr to Garberville. You pass by/thru Blockburg and Alterpoint itself and you can also head West to Fort Steward and link up to Dyerville Rd. or catch the road East to Zenia and Kettonpon also a great ride. Hear are a few pictures of the area we have been talking about, if you are up in the area I would be happy to show you around .
