2013, 34,000 miles, 0 problems untill recently. Developed Vibration, Hanging Idle, Hunting Idle, Hard Start. I was riding around the Vibe. Cleaned, Serviced, REPLACED BATTERY with a new Yuasa YTZ14S. Checked every nut, bolt, clamp, everything was fine. Bike now runs better than new!! Even though the origional battery started the bike and it ran, I am convinced the battery was the problem. Even if it test as good, try a new BATTERY before you go to the Dealer Service guy. With the YTZ14S the bike roars to life INSTANTLY!

Thank you to YSTF and Members for all the info.

What type battery did you get ? Most of YTZ14S batteries look to be too large to fit the S10.

I believe the YTZ14S and YTZ12S (OEM) use the identical case size.

Yes they are identical in physical size.

Suggestion to new owners. Have the dealer upgrade the battery when you receive your new Super Tenere.

My 2012 came new with a 14. There was no mention of it being an upgrade. It's still working fine.

Right! Yuasa YTZ14S. Mine came with YTZ12S, always started, felt labored. 14S fires to life instantly, bike immeadiately ran perfect for the first time in about 8,000 miles. Was prepping it to go to the shop, now I will be going riding instead!! ::022::

That's what I wanted to hear. My 15 year old Vmax cranks and starts so fast. I feel like the beast should do the same. I'll get around to it one of these days.

I had strange idle problems as well, and the new YTZ14S fixed my problems too. The bike still turns over slower than most, but that is normal. My old battery tested as 95cca, the new one was over 300cca in test.

At first I thought there's no way a battery that had enough to start the bike could be weak enough to mess up the idle. But my electronics and computer background leads me to the possibility that a very low voltage while cranking could introduce transient data errors that cause the computer to store some bad values associated with the fueling and/or speed control that persist for the duration of the run. My bike came with the higher capacity battery and I've never had a hint of any of the hard start or poor idle issues. So maybe a weak battery is a reasonable explanation.

I had to switch out the battery on my '12 when I sold it and was stunned by how much better the start and idle manners were.

The standard battery lost power so slowly (4 years old) that it was not real noticable. Thought it must need a tune up. Info here made me consider (hope) it could be Battery related. When the bike sat at the Gas Station with the Sidestand down and key left on for a few minutes, it finished it off. Still started, just ran rough. Now perfect!!

Thanks again Guys ::022::

A friend of mine manage to get diluted hydro sulfuric acid n added to the battery. Battery was performing like it is its time. Completely revived. I will try that as my starting is getting slower. I HV a pulse charger that is suppose to reverse the deterioration but battery reads 12.2v. A healthy one reads 12.8v.

I too had some really crappy idle issues. Then one day the bike didn't start as fast as normal and the battery went flat after about 10-15 seconds of cranking.

I went out and got a new battery as the last one was 4.5 years old. New battery bike started right up and the crappy idle it had for about the past week went away.

We used to do this on old batteries when they were wet cells and you could remove the caps. The Super Tenere has a sealed AGM so you can't do this trick, and if you did the mounting position would cause the battery to leak out.

Checkswrecks is right, you're risking having a leaky battery now. The AGM batteries are made like a sponge to absorb the exact measured amount of acid that is put into them at the start. When you add more then it is over full and you are risking having a leak. Get it out of there. I've seen this done on a lot of four wheelers where the battery sat upright and yes for some reason it did put a little more life in the battery.
