Got a call from Cliff at RPM Cycles in Farmer's Branch which is just next to the Honda / Suzuki dealer off I-35.

He knew I was looking at the 800 XC but wanted to see one in person, he had a dealer trade and got a white one, if anyone wants it, they can go get it as it will be a 3-week wait if you order it. Many others are waiting for the Black or Orange paint scheme but the white actually looks pretty nice.

We set the seat on the lowest setting and I had sneakers on and was tip-toeing it, so it felt just a hair taller than the Super Tenere but it was very cushy...

The price is still more then the Tenere so it's hard to wrap your mind around spending a little more for less - on paper - for a bike even though you can argue lighter and smaller should equal more value in the end.. If they were just a couple K cheaper.. might have had to get this one. But, the value you get from the PDP program is really showing when you look at the other bikes you can get in or near the same class.

Anyway, if you are in the area and you want this one, it won't be there long.

that was #2 on the list, but you stated the very reasons why it was so.

I think the motor is excellent though, the chain is the deal breaker for me, as I hit the road hard on some days.

Once upon a time was at the top of my list. A good bike but the value, features, and the long maintenance intervals of the Tenere keep me on-board. Nice bike though and the Triple is my favorite engine design period, love them.

I plan on stopping by a Tiger dealer tomorrow I hope they have one there. Just looking, touchy, feely. Tenere is too far away to be jealous, she will never know.

I'm unclear why a $12K MSRP Triumph should be more expensive than a $15K MSRP S10 or why this one "won't be there long". Is there a shortage of 800XC's in central TX? Around here (WA state), they're plentiful and discounted.

Were they in short supply back in April, 2011 when this was first posted? Don't know what the price of an 800 XC was back then, but Mellow was talking about a PDP Tenere that listed for $13,900, with several dealers taking orders for around $12,500 or less.

They were slightly "hot" when they first shipped. They're pretty cold right now - you can get 800 Triumphs discounted pretty aggressively.

I didn't realize the thread was old and resurrected. Ignore my drivel.

RPM cycle is a cool place. One of their techs backed into my Tenere and knocked it over a couple weeks ago in the parking lot. No harm done, but I'm pretty sure he's still catching shit for it.
