Ticking noise

Hello,

I haven't ridden the S10 much in the past year but I got her out today. It is a 2018 with 7,500 miles. I took her out for a 100+ mile ride and when I got home I put it into neutral to get off the bike. When I did, I could hear a clicking sound when I let the clutch out. The noise would go away when I pulled the clutch in and return when I let the clutch out. It was loud enough that I could hear it over the engine noise. I am thinking the clutch needs to be bled, but I thought I would see if my thoughts are correct or if there was something else that needs to be looked at.

Thanks!

I just brought my S10 home but it doesn't matter what bike I ride, when I take my ear plugs out I'm like.... what is that noise!

My Sena battery died the other day, so I had to listen to the bike. She is noisy, but I like it. Not as much as my music though.

When it comes to weird noises, I think it's easier for members to formulate an opinion if you're able to post a short video that actually has the noise. If you've never heard it before and now you are, then obviously something has changed since the last time you rode. There are guys on here like Tabasco who could probably diagnose the problem just by hearing what the noise is.

I normally ride with earplugs 99% of the time; that 1% that I don't put them in always freaks me the 'F out! Regardless of make/model/brand (my WR250 with the aluminum skidplate is terrifying to listen to with the naked ear).

Hey “JJTJ2”,

7,500 total miles over a 5-year period:oops:!
That’s only 1,500 miles driven each year!
Or, only 125 miles ridden per week!

I think the weird noises you are hearing are your Super Tenere doing it’s best to complain about not being ridden as designed, ie; HARD.

A suggestion: give it an “Italian Tune-Up” by driving it as hard as you feel comfortable, for as long as you feel comfortable. In other words, blow it out:).

Maybe shift gears and pulling the clutch and brake levers as many times as you can, to get the fluids moving around?

Also, fluid changes are probably all overdue.

It wouldn’t hurt to add Yamalube’s Fuel-Med additive to the fuel tank with each and every fill-up (part number: ACC-FUELM-RX). It will clear out all the sticky/sludgy crap that is building-up inside the engine during those times it is not being ridden…

Also, I second the request that asks for a video (with sound) being posted on this site, so we can all understand the exact sound a little better.

None-the-less, it needs to be ridden:)

Technically I bought the bike new in the spring of 2020 just before the shut down so I am averaging 2,500 miles a year.... of which less than 100 came in 2022.... life happens.

I went out into the garage to record the sound (which I should have described as a clacking not a ticking. But I couldn't replicate the noise. So now I am thinking that I was on the edge of a false neutral since it was only doing it when the clutch was let out and now that I have moved the bike, it isn't doing it again.
