Montgomeryville Cycle is where I buy all my gear. It's a shame the bike will be gone after the 3rd, or else I'd stop by to see it since I work near there... Maybe I can get out that way this weekend.

I sure wish the Yamaha DM for the western region would get something going for California!

Speedstar Devin, I think there were a few dealers back in October who had the Tenere for a few days. I was down there in Ontario, CA then and remember reading something about it then.

I went to Montgomeryville today and looked at the Tenere on display.

Very Nice.

Salesman came over and we talked for a good 1/2 hour. He fired it up, throttle felt very responsive.
This one had the Side Cases with inner liners and engine bars (aka Crash bars). I like the way they integrate into the bike. Don't know how well they protect the bike. I'm sure there's a thread on it here somewhere. Couldn't test drive it since it wasn't considered a demo, just a display model.

I think there's one thing that would be an issue for me - (not a show stopper), but those throttle cables have to be moved out of the way. That would just irritate me to no end.

Other than that, the ergonomics are great, the seat seems comfortable as others have attested to.

Finally got to see the bike in person today and met a couple of the forums members to boot. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. Sitting on the bike felt very comfortable with everything easy to reach.
I've got a 30" inseam and was close to flat footing it with the seat in the low position. The bike felt much lighter than it looks like it would be and was easier to put on the centerstand than my little 650GS.
All in all I was quite impressed with the bike. I took a few pictures while several of us discussed the bike with a salesman who fired up the engine a couple of times for our enjoyment.

After reviewing these pictures, I noticed several items for discussion as you will see:

The headlights are BRIGHT! Even in the well lit showroom the stood out to me.

The radiator air intake looks like it could swallow a errant branch or small critter while off-roading and perhaps damage the radiator, or you could just end up with meat on a stick that cooks while you ride! ;D

This perticular bike I believe is a european model requiring 95 RON. I'm wondering if the US models will operate on 87 or if they will require premium too?

While it's not a deal breaker, I did notice that the rear brake reservoir and hose is somewhat exposed to flying debris from the tire. Looks like a crap-flap is in order.

One more note...on this perticular unit, someone or something bashed the stock skidplate and pushed it into the header pipe. I'm glad we have options here.

Nice catch on the skid plate. I didn't notice that.
I did notice the exposed rear brake reservoir. It looks like there should an underside splash guard. There are some exposed mount points that could easily accommodate a guard of some kind.

Glad to see some people made it up to see the bike.

Looking forward to hearing from our European friends about the throttle routing and what can be done to clear the visibility issue.

The cable routing really isn't an issue. Who looks at the instruments anyway ::)

Seriously, you really don't notice it .... and they don't interfere with anything.

I made it there also and met Kev there too. The bike is sweet looking and there were a few things I noticed also. It will need some mirror wideners, and other cases. The bike had 1600 on the clock and the dealer couldn't figure out how to open the cases. It took like 10 min to get them open. I found the key turned very hard hard in the lock and the inside of the cases were very dusty. I did not notice any rubber gasketing around the lid so that could have just been the problem. For an OEM case I was disappointed of its performance and look. The outer aluminum shell seemed very thin and cheep, and was really all plastic. there was very little room inside the case after they ribbed the boxes for strengthening them up. the 37L case looked like it only 20+L left usable space. I will be looking at Trax or Givi new cases for the bike.

I stopped in on Thursday for the last half hour before they closed. I figured out the locks on the side cases.
Noone seemed interested to talk to me. They left me alone. I should have asked if it was ok to fire it up.

pannier

I thought the OEM panniers were crap.
Otherwise.........LOVE IT!!!

I got my letter from Yamaha this week too!
