All,

I just ordered these tank pads and was wondering on if there were any tips on installation or lessons learned. I know these are pretty straightforward, but the only dumb question is the one you don't ask right? Also i tried to search for this info but I could not find anything current and I did not want to resurrect an ancient thread.

I just know that once you get these type of things stuck on they are either a pain the rear to move or impossible to move. Also probably a dumb question, I am assuming I need to remove my stock black tank stickers? If so, what is the best way to remove them? There was basically no installation instructions that came with them. Basically it just says to look at their website for installation videos. The problem is they don't use a Tenere as an example.

Any help would be appreciated before I do something stupid. :-[

I install them different than TechSpec does.

- Actually fairly simple. If I can do it...

Need
- Razor Blade
- Blue Tape but any tape will do

Do
- clean the sides of the fuel tank.
- cut a horizontal slit through the protective material.
- align the pad to the tank and tape the top of the pad to hold it in place.
- lift the lower portion of the pad and remove the protective material.
- press the pad to the fuel tank.
- lift the lower portion of the pad and remove the protective material.
- press the pad to the fuel tank.

- now do the other side.

I think TechSpec has instructions on YouTube.

Thanks. Like I said, I am not too worried about it, I just wanted to ask if there is something that people were running into or wished they would have done. Like placement on the bike. Also looking at some of the very old threads there were many that were having issues with these peeling up which appeared to be an application error?

Your method does differ from how they show on their application videos. I like your idea on splitting it in the middle so you can apply the concave portion first and work out.

I have a RED 2015 also. Looks to me the factory black accents on the tank sides are under the clear coat. I doubt you are getting them removed without damage....let me know if you do, how you did it?

I guess I did not look at them very closely to see that. Upon additional research it appears you have to put the pad over the decals. Some have expressed that they do not cover them very well. That was a few years ago though. Not sure if they changed their design. I will find out this weekend when I put them on.

Thanks for the reply.
