hey guys,
checked the oil thread and there was a question about chnaging the oil filter without removing the SW Motech Skidplate, but I didn't see an answer... anybody checked this yet. I'm having 600mi. service at dealer, but they don't like things like crashbars / Skid plates that get in the way... anything in the 600 mi. service that gets checked that the crashbars would be in the way? I imagine checking the battery, although I can slide the battery side panel off with removing the crashbars.... thoughts???? thanks...

I haven't done it, but I can't imagine getting the filter off with the skidplate on. The threaded nipple is like 1 1/8" long I believe.

I was hoping someone would develop a simple little fix for that. Like cutting out a section of the skidplate just in front of the filter and a simple re-attach. I was also wondering if you could fabricate a friction fit metal housing for the end of the filter to protect it, and then just cut out the section of the skidplate right in front of it. Would this work ::012:: , or create other problems ::010:: ?? R

I have changed oil twice since I installed my SW-Motech skidplate. Off in a couple of minutes, perhaps 3 minutes to reinstall. Not a problem. I did learn to loosely start the 4 bolts in front before installing the bottom bolts, though. First time I did the bottom bolts first, then when installing the LAST nut on the front bolts, the nut fell between the plate and the engine. Duh! Next time I reversed the order of bolt installation and no problemo.

ya, I've changed oil a couple times. not too hard to take off skid plate or the crash bars for that matter (3 bolts each side)... just wondering as I have maintenance plan with the dealer and I'm sure they don't want to take off the skid plate and crash bars to do the regular maintenance... I guess I'll have to remove them for the maintenance. Other than that the bike perfect ( except for the slight buffeting at 119 MPH!! : )

No Need to remove the crashbars for the 600 mile maint. All they are going to do is change the engine and final drive oil and a general check of bolts, etc. If for some reason they want to get into the battery compartment, the right side cover is easily removed with the SW-M bars in place.
