Sticking Throttle Issues

I am having some issues with a sticking throttle.

Lubricated the throttle cables today (32,000 and haven’t done this before) with Yamaha Silicone Spray Lubricant. Lubricant didn’t come out of the end of the cable. Not sure if I need more?

The lower (adjustable) throttle cable seemed too short during reinstallation but worked it out. At first it starting sticking when the bars were turned to the right (from sitting position). I found a snag in the cable line and fixed it and also adjusted the cable. After adjustments, it is now sticking when the bars are turned to the left.

What am I missing?

Disclaimer - don’t have a ton of experience with mechanical work so hoping it is something simple.

I just had my throttle cables off my ‘21 S10 for removal of the throttle bodies during a valve clearance check. Make sure both cables are routed correctly in the pulleys when installed as I found there wasn’t much free play or room for error. Your routing looks correct in the pictures……also check the handlebar/throttle terminus of the cables where they enter the housing.

Thank you! I plan on working on the bike again tomorrow and will look at those things. Also considering putting more lubrication in until it flows out the bottom. Not sure if that will make a difference or not.

Are you the original owner, are they the original cables, and how old is the bike? The comment about sticking when turned makes me think a routing issue. But if they haven't been replaced/removed, that wouldn't make sense.

2nd owner - first owner didn’t ride it. It’s a 2017 non-ES. Cables are original. The lower cable line (with the adjustment bolt) almost feels to short. Didn’t have that issue until after taking it apart for lube.

So, it didn't stick until after the lubing? To me that would indicate that it has to be a routing issue. Somewhere, somehow, something did not end up where it started.

I’m guessing it’s to do with reassembly of the throttle grip on the handlebars and not the actual cables. Can be fiddly to get back together. Also, I use 3 in 1 oil for all my cables. Just keep adding until it comes out the bottom end. No need to remove cables. Silicone spray can be pretty dry

Been working on it this morning but with no luck yet. Think I have ruled out cables being the issue and, as MattR said, something to do with assembly.

Lifted the tank/removed plastics this morning and routing/binding isn’t an issue. Lubed with 3 in One until it drained out the end near the throttle body. Cables are in good shape with no signs of damage.

When twisting the throttle there is a rubbing sound. Can’t figure out what is causing it but still have the same problems with it catching.

Checked for rust this morning and there is none. Kinda wish there was though and it was fixed :)

Update - removed the air box and disconnected the throttle cables from the throttle body. The return cable is the issue. Throttle snaps back perfectly without it connected.

Am I overlooking something with that assessment?
