Re: Thinking hard about selling - 2012 Blue

It is a very good bike. I can truly understand the conflicting thoughts. A motorcycle can be an extension of one's personality, more so than a car in my opinion. I have had several motorcycles, but one bike I've kept around is my '01 Sprint ST. It's not perfect, but it fits me. On the otherhand, the newest bike in my stable, the S10 has been fanstastic and has taken me places and has done things that my Sprint could never do. Heck three weekend's ago, Sail2xxs and I were on some trail just south of Knoxville Tennessee, not too far from the dragon, crusing down these "trails" that had weeds in the middle taller than my waist, with ton's of leaves and a good number of wet areas to tackle. In the dark nonetheless! I'll never forget it for three reasons: One, it was my first real time off road; two, my S10 got disgustingly dirty; and three, we saw a freaking black bear cross the trail in front of us. When we were finished, and stopped for some coffee, we talked it up and said we should add to our signature lines that we "ADV at Night". It was fun. So, I've come to really adore my S10 in the short time I've owned it (11 weeks and 7,000 miles). It to me is a fantastic bike (the S10). However, when it comes to busting down the road and picking up some speed, my Sprint is the weapon of choice.

I wish you luck, it can be difficult to make a decision.

So.... how much for some of the "Throw in" pieces, if I was interested?

Re: Thinking hard about selling - 2012 Blue

Sorry to hear this. Thanks for all your help when I was in the market.

I guess if I lived in Dallas I wouldn't see much need for this bike. You probably don't get it offroad to explore as much as you thought you would, or you have to wait till you take trips. For me living in North Ga it allows me to see parts of the state, Tennessee, and NC that you just can't get to on a ST1300. Good luck with the sale.

mellow, sorry to hear about that. i understand the struggle, but don't miss the leaning over of the Honda at all. That part does it for me.

that's a smoking deal Mellow. If I didn't already have one, I'd jump on it.
I do miss my ST1300 often, and will probably get another someday.
Just keep both! ::26::

Good luck with your sale, BTW, what brand of soft bag appears in the pic that you have posted? Looks great!

Good luck with your sell Joe. Seems like a more than fair price for a nicely farkled Tenere!

Re: Thinking hard about selling - 2012 Blue

I often have the same feeling about the ST 1300. I sold mine prior to getting the Tenere. Mine was really set up for touring, and I can honestly say that no other motorcycle was ever that smooth. Some people hate that, but I like a really refined machine. I really love the Tenere now after over a year of owning it, and would not go back to a strictly touring machine. Good luck with the sale Joe.

Good luck with the sale, dude. I think that's a more than fair price. Of course, look where I live. ::025:: It is a well farkled bike. I also have an ST1300. But in this neck of the woods, the Tenere is the bike of choice. So my Honda is up for grabs. Keep us posted. You won't be shunned .... excessively. ;D R

Jeeze Joe, one little bag of cat crap gets in your bike at OkieSTOC and now you have to sell it? And I thought our other buddy was sensitive!

I guess that I'm in the same boat with my ST1300 and the Tenere. As much as I like the ST, it won't take me into the dirt where I love to play and explore. They are both great bikes in their respective roles. Fortunately for me, I think I can hold onto both of them without negative repercussions.

Best of luck with your decision. If you do sell off the add on's, I would be interested in some of them.

I'm not understanding this ST1300 love on here, that has got to be one of the worst bike's I have ever ridden, second only to a Hardley. The Super Ten is streets ahead of it in every way :)

Although I would have to agree it is not my favorite either when compared to the FJR1300. But that's another story.................. ::002::

Re: Thinking hard about selling - 2012 Blue

Personally, although I could buy either the ST1300 or FJR at invoice, I had 3 ST1300's and no FJR's. Once swapped bikes for a weekend with a friend that had a FJR and my wife and I both couldn't wait to get our ST1300 back. Personal taste and all that.

That being said, I really love my S10. I do miss the electric shield on the ST, though.

Mellow, you say that you might be more interested in the NC700X to replace your S10. Have you ridden one? A nice little bike, but limited in usefulness in my opinion. I would certainly never consider replacing the S10 with one, but again, that is personal taste.

Not yet Fred. I can see making a tourer out of it as I'd like to do that with a smaller bike. We'll see, once I ride one I may just stick with the ST1300 and be as happy as a clam.
I have set up several for my dealer and ridden both the standard and DCT. It needs a lot more wind protection in my opinion, before I would consider touring on it. Fun around town and probably fun on tight twisties. Have tried both the Honda larger shield and the Givi shield and it needs more. Not saying that it couldn't be done, some may like it as is, but I would only find it useful as a commuter, not as a tourer.

It is selling well, though and our dealer had to buy the last two at other dealers in order to fill his last two sales to his customers.

Good info.. what are your impressions of the DCT? I've heard a lot of good things about it.
The DCT is pretty neat and I think it matches the personality of this bike very well. It is the second generation DCT and has some improvements over the first generation that I have ridden on the VFR1200. It seems smoother in operation and also will let you manually upshift or downshift even though you have it in one of the auto modes. In riding one, it seems that you can do the manual up or down overide two gears while in auto. The only down side is that it is combined with ABS, which although that is a valuable option, the combination raises the price of the bike $2,000 and most customers don't want to do that when they are considering a $6999 bike.

Again, I don't want to give the impression that I don't like the NC700X. On the contrary, it is a neat mid size bike, but I can't see it being considered as an alternative to the Super Tenere. Different animals, in my opinion.
