Well as of my time frame, need it by about September 20 (and sooner would be better), looks like the Yamaha, Hepco-Becker and Altrider plates are the only ones I can be sure of actually getting.

Your thoughts regarding the choice of these three?

FWIW: Twisted Throttle says they have Givi coming but no dates and no info on them yet. The SW-Motech are in redesign with no estimated delivery date. The Givi are expected sooner. Altrider expects to be shipping the black plates again soon, I believe the silver are in stock.

Specifically wondering about: ease of removal and replacement (after initial installation, for oil changes), protection and mounting adequacy? Or any other relevant points.

I haven't tried it but I think with the altrider you can change your oil with it on. I think the filter will make things messy but maybe a rag stuffed in that area before pulling the filter will catch the filter oil. There are two cutouts in the plate so you can access the drain plugs with a socket/extension.

I may try it on my next oil change just for grins.

Apparently. Possibly the representative I spoke with was confused and meant the crash bars.... but I think we were on the same page. Time will tell.

No skid plates show on the Givi website, at least I didn't see any.

I still need to get a skid plate and will b going with altrider. Theirs seems to be the strongest one out there. You will also pay a lot more for altrider than the others. If you look around you will find the Yami skid plate is made cheaply and bends. There are a few threads on here or on ADVride about them bending.

As easy as it is to remove and reinstall most skid plates, I don't think it would be worth the mess from the oil dripping out all over the pan when you remove the filter. You are going to have to get the hose out and flush the oil out from there when you're done, at least I would. I know that I can remove my SW-M plate in a minute or 2 and it doesn't take much more than that to reinstall it. it's not like you are going to be doing this eveyday anyway.

I'm loving my Hepco Becker. It's heavy at 11lbs, but strong and well mounted. Also goes waaaaay back and covers the catalytic converter. Also has very good coverage up the sides, and you only give up 1/2" inch of ground clearance. It's mounted with 5 bolts of the same sizes (no messing around switching tools or trying to figure out which bolt goes in which hole). I timed it when I did the first oil change. 3 mins to remove and 5 to get back on. Most people will do it faster than me!

Altrider is actually less than Hepco-Becker. Of the three presently available, the Yamaha is considerably cheaper, but I didn't like the looks of it.
