My wife, myself and another couple will be driving to Santa Fe in early June for a long weekend. My friend and I both have adventure bikes and were thinking we'd like to take them along if there were some interesting unpaved back roads to explore out there. I've ridden some of the area on paved roads with the FJR but would like to do something different this time.

We'll probably just have one day to ride without the girls being along so need something close enough to Santa Fe for a day trip. We'd also do one day of paved road riding with the girls. Maybe take the high road to Taos again since my friend hasn't done it. Would be interested in other suggestions as well.

Any of you locals have any suggestions or know of some resources I can research?

Thanks!

Just north of Santa Fe, head up towards Los Alamos, take HWY 4 past Bandalier Natl Monument. Head south on FR 289, St. Peters Dome road. This will take you to an excellent overlook at the Dome. Head back a few miles to the T in the road that you had passed, and follow the BIA road south to Cochiti lake Rd. This will take you past the Cochiti lake. you will be on Indian land at this time so stay on the roads. You will come out on I-25 between Albuquerque, and Santa Fe.
I'm not sure of the road number for the BIA road, but do remember there is a sign at the T, with arrows pointing the way to St Peters Dome, and to Cochiti lake.
I rode it on my Tenere, so it should be ok on a Beemer ;)

I'll be on my Tenere so when his BMW breaks down I'll be able to give him a lift out :)

BTW, good to meet another Bart. Doesn't happen too often. Thanks for the tips
