I just purchased a new s10 and want to install my aluminum boxes from my Wee strom onto the Super Tenere. Since i was using Happy Trail racks on my Wee for many years I thought I would purchase new HT racks for the S10. I'm having trouble getting a ship date from HT and have a trip coming up fast. I may cancel the order if I can get an alternative faster.

Anyone have any words of wisdom on other brands of pannier racks. I have seen the Givi racks and they seem a bit whimpy for the usual weight i carry.

I use the Metal Mule panniers. There a bit pricey, but are very well built, and tough. Not sure on availability were your from, especially if you need some quick, but there worth a look.

Bike on the left with the black panniers are the Metal Mule.

I ordered the racks from Happy Trails at the end of February and still do not have them. They have sent me a couple emails changing the projected ship date. In the past I have ordered allot of stuff from them and it is usually hit or miss on the delivery dates. The last I heard was a ship date of 4/16/12. I sent them an email last Friday and they did not respond. Their stuff has been very durable and I have not really needed panniers yet or I would have canceled.

My bad, I read your first post a bit quick, and was thinking you were after a whole pannier system. Hope your order arrives soon, I know what its like waiting for needed parts for a trip, with time running out. :(

I am happy with my SW Motech. Others were wound up about appearance, they were not parallel with the bike center line. I found them easy to install, fairly sturdy and easy on off if you want them off. Middle to upper middle of the pack price wise.

Another vote for SW-M and I understand they have corrected some/all of the skewed issues. They are NOT symmetrical, which may or may not be what the OP is looking for with his HT panniers. Givi and HB are "pretty much" symmetrical.

Thanks for all the good info. Appears happy trails maybe waiting for a big order before they build. The mules are pretty pricey if i did the euro exchange correct. I will look into the other suggestions.

Maybe i should just anny up and buy new bags, but i hate to lose all the stickers i've collected over the past 5 years of touring :p

OK, now I'm upset. When I get my bike back, I'm gonna take those SW MO racks and rip 'em off and stomp on 'em and bend 'em and torch 'em and just beat the ratchet out of 'em. Boy, I'm depressed now .... R ::020::

So far I really like the happy trails racks. Overall the fit and finish is nice, and I like the add-on rack that fits in the space on the right side of the bike between the pannier and the bike. The only issues that arose during assembly were the placement of some of the fasteners, which could be difficult to access without the right tool, or a little patience.

I bought the Zega Pros. They work. You pay a bit for them. I got mine 10% off w/ free shipping because I attended a couple Touratech sponsored events earlier this year.

I got an email this Am saying my racks are being shipped from HT. ::012:: Maybe the email I sent telling them I was looking at alternatives helped move this along.

When i get them mounted I will post a picture of my ugly ass bags covered with stickers from previous wee adventures. I believe in function over fashion from my airhead days. Also still own a R60/6 that purrs like a kitten.

An important factor for me was whether I wanted to leave the racks on all the time or just when I was going on a trip and needed luggage. Since I have a nice tailpack that I keep on the bike all the time, I decided I wanted easily removeable racks and bags. The ones I know of are SW, the Givi quick release models, or Hepco Beckers. I settled on the SW with Trax bags and am very happy. I can install or remove them in about a minute and they spend most of their life on racks in my garage. Just a little bit of fuckin around on initial install, after that, no problemo, and they look just fine and I don't have unsightly racks on my bikes when I remove the bags.

Different strokes for different folks.

That is an example of unsightly racks IMHO, especially with that 1200 in there, but I am glad you like them. As I said, different strokes for different folks, we all have different tastes ;D

Best wishes.

Those Jesse mounts are not unsightly, just fugly, OK, really fugly ::025:: (I think there is a difference?)! Kind of like the entire ST in general! I don't mind, since I have them both (the Jesse's and the ST)!

Yeah, after owning two KLR's you would think I wouldn't give a darn. ;D

Actualy I believe that Yamaha did the best job as far as racks are concerned. You have to be looking for them to realize that something has been added to the bike when the bags are off. Unfortunately, I really don't care for the looks of the bags themselves. I think that if they had rounded off the corners like most bags, that would have been ok for me. I can get Yamaha's and their accessories at dealer cost, but chose to buy other brands of bags, crash bars, and skid plate, because I didn't like their designs.

As far as the ST itself being fugly, well, I can see a person making that remark if looking at a black one, but the blue is SO Beautiful! ;)
