Replacing fork springs with forks still attached to the bike?

Ok I hav searched this forum but cannot find the answer, so can I replace the fork springs on my S10 with the forks still attached to the bike, I have a spring compressor tool and gave changed conventional fork springs in situ?

I am sure that you have your reasons for doing them on the bike, but you may find that wrestling to do it in place may be more difficult that just dropping them and clamping them in a vise.

There is a lot of preload on these springs. My traditional techniques failed, so I made a compressor using an old screw old jack. Full electronic control too, and makes it real easy.
