I first posted about this here http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=7820.0 but to quickly summarize, my bike pulls to the left when I take my hands off the bars. I checked the rear wheel alignment and found it was not pointing at the front tire. It was not off a lot but was pointing 3/8" to the right of the center of the front tire. That is more than I would accept on my chain bikes. Call me anal but I like my wheels to both point in the same direction as I ride down the road! :D I also worried about how this might effect tire life. It sure can't help!
So it turns out that the fix was simple and cheap and now my wheels align right on. ::012::
I had to pull the rear wheel off anyway to change the tire so while, I had it off I pulled the drive shaft to take look. It only requires removing the 4 nuts and the whole drive shaft assembly slides out. I calculated that adding about 1/16" of space would bring the rear wheel into alignment. Once I had it apart it was clear that this would cause no bearing or seal spacing or alignment issues. The spines on the end of the shaft are about 2 1/2" long so the 1/6" less engagement should not be a problem. I made a spacer out of gasket material from the auto parts store. Two layers of .030" each for a total of .060". Close enough. Here is a picture.

So how did it work? Great! The alignment checks dead on now. The pull to the left is still there but about 1/2 or less what it was before. I made a trip from Orlando to Tulsa and back after the mod so now have over 3,000 miles on it with no issues.
