Speed, Blue Eyes, Etc....... I have this idea with a PCV... your thoughts? You can run two different maps on a PCV. You can program them in from a source or use auto tune. Or even take an Auto Tune 'hot-rod-map' and turn down all the cells for better fuel economy and "touring"... (in a nut shell)

This is my thought, Power Commander offers a switch to flip between the two maps. You can change maps while you ride or stopped. What would stop someone from tying that switch (maybe through a relay) to the momentary switch on our (T) and (S) modes? So the (T) would be a very true (T)ouring, and the (S) would or could be + 10 HP with the "hot rod" PCV map. It would be the ECM doing the factory (S) plus the map of the PCV.... Kinda sounds like a cool set up...........

On the other hand, I could have the switch and have a PCV (low/high) on top of the Yamaha ECM (T) & (S)................ your thoughts ? ::26::

Hey Jaxon,

I've been thinking about putting that PC V switch map feature to use too, as soon as I found out about it. But, after a few moments I thought to myself: "why would I ever want/need to drive with a sub-optimized or any other map than the optimal one map? The whole reason for me for getting a PC V is having the A/F optimal (ideally at all times using Autotune, but I am hesitant about welding two extra bungs in my headers). I very rarely ever drive in T mode anyway...

My default driving mode is S mode and TCS 2 (or TCS off sometimes)....

The only use I can see for having two maps loaded and being able to switch them would be when driving with/without baffle for instance. But since my Akra doesn't have a removable baffle, that option does not apply to me.

So unless you have a practical situation where it makes sense (have a real need for) using another map ( eg. change exhaust, or any other part in the intake/exhaust throughput system) I don't see much use for it. Having a zero map or any other map than the optimal map, doesn't make sense to me, or at least I would not want (risk) to use that (often).

I do not want to offend you, just share my thoughts freely.

Plz let me know your feedback on my brainfart ::004::

I also agree with Blue Eyes. I never use the T switch always in S mode. I cannot see a reason to use T mode and that includes off road.
Having just done the Yamaha Tenere Experience course in Sunny Wales I can tell you this bike is more capable off road than I ever thought possible.
TCS 2 S Mode all day. The bike will take you anywhere.

Apologies for a quick thread-jack Tabasco, but I must concur with Taffcd's statement.

This bike is unbelievably capable and tractable in some extremely gnarly off-road situations to a point where, until time passes and more folks capture video footage of some of the more radical exploits, most would be unaware of what it can actually do.. ::008::

Jaxon,

Interesting idea stacking them up. Kind of like a 4 speed transfer case on a Jeep. I can see me wanting multiple options, as well. For instance, when my wife rides with me, the T mode works quite well for her. On my own, I ride considerably differently. Don't need to be balls out ALL the time.

Jaxon, I am using the map switch right now on mine. I found it to be a nice benefit as I am using a number of tweaked maps from my friends Taff and Blue-eyes. I have changed my map based on my California model that I feel is even leaner than the 49 state model.
In doing this, I was able to load two maps at a time and toggle between them to evaluate.

I am planning to have a custom map made soon. I talked to the dyno technician about having an ideal tune map and a fuel conservation map with slightly less fuel used.
I also my try to get one for the baffle in and out. He said he could make more power with the baffle in so that will probably be my normal setup.

Yea, Im thinking long distance fuel economy on one hand, and awesome Super Tenere power on the other. If im going across the US or around the world I want the ability to get the best fuel mileage I can safely out on open roads, and other times have full blast power.... No need for all this ability for just off road. but go anywhere, where saving a bit of fuel might save your life.... Just some thoughts ::017::

When I get my set up we will have to compare the maps.. Im going to run AT and play with the (T) & (S) and several maps. I do run the (T) in traffic and just screwing around in town. Like I said ^^^^ would like to have a (T) that gets the best fuel economy maybe hours and hours on the high way where I dont really need all the power, but as soon as I hop off road out in the desert I switch it over to (S) and and the AT (hot) map....

Being a wheeler, I understand completely. I once had a Jeep with five shift levers. Transmission, stacked dual transfer cases, and an overdrive. I could select the correct gear for virtually any condition. It would go so slow that it would frustrate you walking next to it, but also do 75 on the freeway with good mileage. Fun stuff, I could pop wheelies in second gear, RWD low. It's all about function and all about versatility. You can BET Nick had some special maps on his bike for his record ride, and not all were high output.

Good thoughts, keep me updated.

Paul

Offend me :D This is a place for thoughts and ideas, people to hang out with.... ::018::

I do run the (T) around town and in other circumstances. Not to ::002:: but I think long term im looking for a (T) (cross country / save fuel) mode & a (S) bad ass performance that is optimized. Ive been doing a lot of reading and from what I understand, the 'fuel economy' mode is still "optimized" over stock with fuel pulse and injector timing. The 'lesser' map is still not a stock map. It would still be better than the stock (T) I think on our bikes, but save fuel over hours in the saddle going down the high way. Maybe -speed- can add more to this.

Looking forward to checking out more maps from people. I think a year from now we are going to have some killer maps for guys that want a long distance IBA bike.. and on the other hand have some maps for guys that tear it up in (S) everyday....

Im going to add a PC MAP page to the web site and start collecting them from people that would like to share. This would be a great source of Fuel / power / PCV / map info..................... People can pop in and try out a new map......

Ah, I see the purpose. Funny how you have situations/circumstances that we here in Western-Europe never ever encounter.... Driving for hours without civilisation (a petrol station) nearby is almost impossible. Finding a rural area that big.... I can only dream of that. I wish we would have that! Here in The Netherlands we are 17 million people on 41.526 km2.... or 410 people per km2...

That's why smoking pot is legal here, that's the only way to break free... :))
