Plans for Independence Day?

Curious what everyones plans are for July 4th. Unfortunately, I didn't think to put this up in time for our friends to the North for Canada Day - but they can certainly still chime in. :)

For us, staying around home. We are having new granite counter-tops installed in the kitchen on the 5th, so my job on the 4th will be to remove the existing sink/etc and the old counter-top. It will be nice when complete, but the kitchen is going to be a mess for a couple days. Next will be installing new ceramic tile for the back-splash (after the granite is installed).

Monday evening, we will go watch the fireworks display that the city puts on at Lake Loveland. It's usually VERY good!

Actually, I hope to be back home for the 4th. My mother fell and broke her femur, had it pinned in the hospital, and is awaiting transfer to rehab; she's normally in an assisted living facility. Because we (Yamagal59 and I) live a good two plus hours away, she and I are sitting in a hotel near Valley Forge, and have been here since yesterday. That way we can be near where my mother currently is until the move to rehab. Our original plan (Ha! When do they ever work?) was for me to do the ride test yesterday, return home, then the wife O:) and I were going away the other direction for the weekend, as we both have high pressure/high stress/too full jobs and really needed a break. We ended up here instead. One hotel is as good as another, and this one is actually quite nice. At least they have Sam Adams here. :p
We really know how to have fun. See why I have a Tenere on order? I can ride to some place where there is no cell coverage, with enough stuff to last a few days, and have some peace and quiet. And Yamagal59 is invited. The FZ can't get back in deep enough, and the WRR can't carry enough stuff.

How's that for a fun forth? Do I get a sticker?

In my book you get a sticker if they have one for that. Good on you for taking the time to be with your mother when she needs you.

Sadly, since she is in advanced stages of Alzheimers, she doesn't have a clue who I am. My saintly wife needs the credit. She puts up with both of us. I'm a in it for the long haul kind of guy. Otherwise I wouldn't have lasted 21 years in the Navy, and 15 in my current fun-filled job. Like my co-worker says: nobody ever gets fired and we're all too stupid to quit.

All false modesty/wise a** remarks aside: it needs to be done, it gets done. This really is a nice hotel. A weekend away is a weekend away, I'm not picky.

Like I said about my just put up for sale FZ: adult owned. Unless someone wants my WRR, I might just keep the FZ.

It isn't always fun being an adult, but being an adult is what it is.

+1! I too have an aging mother who has had health issues. She is still living at home but how much longer that will be is unknown. My wife also has been a great help in all this. She takes Mom to the doctor and takes notes so she can review them and hopefully follow the instructions. She does this as her job allows more flexibility than mine. But it doesn't hurt that hey both genuinely love each other.

We will have my mother, brother ( it's his birthday today), son, daughter-in-law and grandson over for dinner tomorrow. I am not much into fireworks so we won't go to the local program.

I hope that all of my fellow Americans have a wonderful 4th!

That's what we would probably be doing anyway, so like I said: a hotel is a hotel. Being our age, our parent's health becomes a larger and larger part of what we do. My wife's parents are younger than mine, (mid 70s) but they have health problems as well, as will we all. It goes with the territory.

But I wouldn't mind having my Tenere show up so I could at least take a spin around the block (well, cornfield)!

My hats off to you guys, I confess I'm not ready to deal with sick parents yet. Luckily mine are still young enough and in decent health, but I know my day will come.

As for my plans for the 4th, we're just picnicking with family. Luckily family that has a pool, so we'll be having some fun with the kiddies tomorrow.

Staying around the house. Having family over. Cooking a 10 lbs beef tenderloin- special rub mix, covered in bacon. >:D Thats about it.

Eighteen holes at the club this morning, then the town's parade (watching; not riding my Harley in it ;) ), cookout and fireworks tonight.

It's not a fun time in ones life. Both my wife and I have BTDT. Much as we miss them, we are glad it is behind us and none of our parents are still suffering with any condition. As we are now the "oldest" generation in our respective families, it is even more depressing as we see our own siblings becoming ill (and in some cases, pass away). I lost my older brother a few years ago to pancreatic cancer and it was one of the hardest things in my life to watch. Again, the only good thing is that they are in a "better place" and no longer suffering.

Back to Independence Day - today - Happy Fourth of July to everyone!!

We've had to play it low key. No celebrations on the ranges :( We'll have a party at the weekend. I'm back off to strip, clean and mod weapons ::)

Spkldoe, faithful companion Shadow and me had planned to backyard camp at my man retreat up on the hill overlooking our farm, but then came a call..."Hey man, I've got 4 days off and I've never been to WV! I warned you I was gonna make it someday." So 2 days and 600 FJR twisty & touristy miles later, we've made two good new friends...good peeps they are. Gonna a give em a call to see if they made to GA safely today.

May go see the fireworks tonight if the thunderboomers move on thru.

Everyone have a safe and happy 4th.

Working on my cabin in the mountains of NC. Built out a new kitchen for the wife with all new cabinets and appliances.......vaulted tongue and groove ceilings in white pine for the living/dining/kitchen area.......now told her it's time for me to get a gargage/man cave/S10 retreating place out back....... ;) ;) ;) ;)

We put in a 1220 mile ride in Missouri and Arkansas and had a great time. I hope to get a ride report up tomorow, Here is a preview.
