Pitting on forks

Well impressed with Yamaha. 2015 ES only 3 days left of warranty and I noticed rust and pitting on the forks, only really saw it as I had the mudguard off. Took it to Woodford Yamaha for them to have a look. Less than a week later and I get a call, your parts are in for the claim, sweet. I did not buy the bike from them but did take it there for the 6000mls service.

Not so good is have rust on the fork. :'(

I seem to recall at least one other complaint about pitting, but as I recall, it was another UK owner, so it seems to be exclusively a British thing...

I have noticed a small amount at the bottom of the forks by the axel where dirt seems to collect and that's what moisture loves , been a little lazy in my cleaning , so trying to keep that area cleaner and polished up to prevent a growing problem... doesn't help when the bike lives outside...

I had bad pitting on my forks. Enough to cause a leak. Mine were replaced under warranty. I'm in Canada btw. I think the cause was using neoprene fork covers that held in crud and corruption.

I had been wondering about that possibility myself.

I once read some where, that neoprene covers is a good thing when travel offroad.
But they have to be taking off, when leaving on, they really do collect dirt... the wrong place.

If you want to put some full covers on, do it the old fashion way. (like the one used to be on NOT usd forks)
