Just picked up a new to me 2018. Does the ST typically have a seat strap for the Passenger to hold on to? If so, maybe the previous owner removed it…
Can these be purchased aftermarket?

No strap, but there are supposed to be grab handles on either side of the seat. The red bungee is wrapped around the grab rail. There's a matching one on the other side.

Not all Z models had the grab handles. Mine didn’t, had to buy a set from a member on here and import them from over there.
That's very interesting. In the U.S. anyway, there legally has to be a way for a passenger to hold on, be it a seat strap or grab rails, if the bike has passenger seat and pegs. Every Tenere over here has grab rails.

Certain models/years in the EU didn't come with things that are standard in the US. Center stand, grab handles, rear rack to name what I remember. All US bikes have grab handles, but some remove them to fit a larger cargo rack or for esthetic reasons.

Did they come with back seats? I thought I saw somewhere that they don't on non-ES in the UK. Which would kinda make sense not having grab bars. In line with what Scott said.

No they all have seats as far as I’m aware. They’d have to remove the pillion pegs too.
My Z was missing the centre stand, pillion grab handles, heated grips and the top box rack. Mine also just had a small plastic cover over the rear light.
I’ve since added the Grab handles, bought heated grips from Partszilla and had a friend post them over, and a SH centre stand from a chap in Liverpool. I’ve also added Givi top box and pannier mounts with a new Givi Maxia4 top box and now have some early givi panniers in 28 and 34 litre sizes.

First change of tyres, before I fitted my centre stand, was a right ballache. Bike balanced on a lift more suited to harleys, loads of bits of wood to level everything out under the sump, ratchet straps to try and ensure it didn’t roll off. Sat like that for a very nervous 24hours. So much easier with the centre stand.

Only use mine when its going to be parked up for a while like at home. I carry a plastic puck on the bike in a bag on the bars so its easy to drop if i need to its 4 inches across used as a plug in drainage or something. Very strong.
