Last weekend we once again set off for the Blue Ridge Parkway, but we found ourselves looking to the sky and taking routes that had sunshine and not rain. Somehow ended up in northeastern West Virginia. We're going to try for the BRP again in a couple of weeks, but who know where we'll end up...(just the way I like it). Last Sunday turned out to be a fantastic ride day, maybe in the top ten for me. Most all of this was shot on Sunday. There was so much video that I had to break it into multiple videos.

Rt 72 and River Road
- I know people who think this is the most scenic ride in all of West Virginia. That's a tall order. I'll put it in the top 2 or 3 of my list. Stunningly gorgeous in the Fall. Even good without leaves as it was for this ride.
Rt 72 and River Road

Dirt, Mud and Flowers - My wife watched this video and said "were you trying to kill me?" No! But I will admit after looking at the video I realized I pushed her way too hard for her second exposure to off pavement on the Tenere. She had less than 1000 miles experience on the bike, 80/20 tires, and about 8 years since the last time she picked her way through the mud on two wheels...and that was a 125cc bike with good knobbies. We did about 30 miles on this dirt section and a lot of it was wet. She did great except for one little mishap which I blame on the tires and me not taking her out of TCS1. In the end she enjoyed the dirt and will not hesitate to do it again. The flowers at the end were in bloom everywhere at a certain elevation.
Dirt Mud Flowers

Mishaps - I was surprised to hear this video. The video starts in the section where my wife dropped the bike. If you listen you can hear us discussing the event as it happens. I like to not think about the part where she is just a couple of feet from a 50 foot drop straight down to the river. To be fair I've also included my mistake that morning. Skid plate test actually hurt me more than the bike.
Mishaps

If I haven't said it lately...I love that I can ride dirt roads like that, then point the wheels to the North and ride 2,000 miles to Nova Scotia. What a freaking awesome bike!!!!!!

What great fun to tag along. ::008:: Absolutely beautiful videos. 8) Thank you for letting us in on the rides. ::26:: Can't decide who is more crazy, you or Dirt Mom. ;D

Somehow I see a Contour Roam with a shotgun mount in my future next spring gobbler season. I appreciate you helping to lighten my wallet. Time to start a squirrel away account.

DM is innocent. She had no idea what I was getting her into...honestly, neither did I. I probably should have because when I saw that bridge in the middle of the woods I realized...we've been here before. It turned out to be the same road DM rode the Spyder down that got us to say we'd never take the Spyder on a dirt road again (and we never did). She may not be totally innocent since I gave her the chance to turn around when someone told us we had another 5 miles of mud before things improve...she said keep going.

I'm sure the Roam is a good camera. I like my Drift HD170. The remote makes it soooo easy to start and stop recording. I be much more limited in where I could place the camera if I had to stop the bike to start and stop the video.

Great videos! Looks like fun, other than the obvious bit.

Something not mentioned is how great it is to have communications! Without them, you'd have been waiting at the next turn, then going back to find her.

Years ago when we did family dirt trips I would blast ahead then sit and wait for the girls to catch up. It works, but when my wife discovered comms were possible she insisted. I resisted, but she was right. We are now to the point where she won't ride without them. To be honest, I also feel uncomfortable riding with her without comms. They allow me to call out road hazards for her around every corner "gravel", "deer," "turning right in .5," "that spot was slippery," "this corner is way sharper than you think," "cow in the road, cow in the road", She feels better with the warning, I feel better talking her through stuff that I anticipate would concern her.

There is a down side. Last year when she crashed I heard the entire event through her microphone. The scream, the impact, the silence. It was awful, but it also told me to turn around immediately. Without it I would have been way down the road before turning around. Comms are a must for us...good and bad.

Great stuff, even the crash was a learning experience. Y'all are gonna have to change your tire choice sooner rather than later I'm thinkin'.

Almost never been able to get my wife on the back of a bike. She's ridden back there a total of 3 times in 26 years. Tell your wife it's not my fault. I'm just doing what my wife tells me to do...this time she said "give me your bike." So I did. ::26::
