OME top box Lock

Well I just went to open the OME top box on my 2010 st and it won’t open, ??? The lock just won’t turn enough, to the point the key will break if I twist it any harder, I have managed to get it off the bike.
Has anyone had this problem before? And how the hell do I open it without wreaking the lid? Any help would be much appreciated

Did you use blue loctite when you installed the lock?

No I didn't install them, was done from new, I can't hear anything rattling around in the box so there isn't any screws fallen out

I am stumped. The locks do not come installed in the case. The lock had to be installed by someone. Probably the dealership or PO.

Unfortunately one of my saddlebags did that once but luckily I was at home when it happened, after about a half hour of trying to get it open it finally opened but it still didn't work right, took the lock apart and lubed it and put it back together, all together over an hour wasted but surprisingly the lock has been working ok since.
In my opinion The Yamaha locks on these Tenere's are junk that should have all been replaced under warranty years ago, but no they just keep shipping them with the same junky locks.

Update. I shook the Crap out of it and yes I can hear a little screw inside the box now I have no idea how I'm going to get it open

Do a Search for this forum and you will find tons of information of How To...

I don't have a Top Box but have had five side cases for five years and 70,000 miles. One fast and simple way to access a locked side case is to drive the rear hinge pins out and remove the lid. Then the hinge pins can be reinserted and nobody would know the difference.

BTW: the Yamaha locks are not the worst or the best. If the locks are installed CORRECTLY using Loctite and Lube with an occasional tune-up they will perform up to standards.

well I got the lid off using the hot needle trick, worked well ::012:: and after a lot of messing around with the lock, I found some broken tumblers in it :'( so I have pulled them all out and all works fine now, if you don't mind that it can be opened with a screwdriver now
I really do like the ome panniers they are just the right size for me, I just wish Yamaha would supply a stronger key with the bike its just not strong enough for these locks.

I had short keys made. They will not start the Tenere but will unlock the luggage and gas tank lid.

The key blank is "ilco X254". The local locksmith was messing around trying to find a blank that would work but it is too short to unlock the ignition. Also replaced the ignition key with an aftermarket (identical in looks) blank that is a bit less flexible.

I park every day on a city street in DC, right in front of a bench frequently used by the homeless. I have soft bags for the KTM and WR, as well as a tank bag for the Tenere, and a couple of times over a period of years have found them slightly different when getting back to the bike in the evening. The hard top box is different. If I don't carry anything of value I leave it unlocked, but it still has the compressor and a tool kit. I've never found anything amiss in that at the end of the day. My guess is that people just assume the locks are in use.

well I got some short keys made so I don't have to stress the ignition key out, and have Loctite (red) all the screws and gave the locks a bit of crc spray they work great now, and I don't think anyone will find out that the top box lock can be opened with a screwdriver so all's good now just glad it happen at home and not on a trip,

FYI: if you do happen to loose a lock and you need to buy a new one... just buy the replacement tripple set and replace all of them.
It will come with 2 new keys and the keys are much stronger and shorter then the ignition keys.
Ignition keys are soft and do bend if twisted in the pannier and top box locks too hard.
