Just a feeler here, but I want to do another camping trip up to the Wellsboro area, probably in September. I live outside of Philadelphia.

Is anybody interested in a ride/camp? I personally would make a long weekend out of it (Friday, Sat, Sunday). Just curious if anybody else has interest.

I/m in. Let me know. We have a cabin 15 minutes from Wellsboro. I love all the back road riding and rt/6. Great area.

I could be tempted. Depends on the weekend. Sept 10th is out though. Going to see Steely Dan.

Maybe. I might get lazy and skip the camp part and stay in Wellsboro. I would be more likely to entice Yamagal59 with that one. Old goats and goatesses like their comfort.

This is somewhat promising.

September 10th is bad for me too. The other weekends seem ok at this point.

I personally like to do the camping thing because I already have the equipment (save motel money), and I really like campfires. I'm flexible though if anybody wants to shack up in Wellsboro we could easily meet up.

I suppose now that I bought an adventure bike I am going to have to buy camping equipment and learn how to camp. :)

I am interested, but unprepared for camping. I am from the city. Someone please give me a list of what I need to buy.

sportrider make sure you do a lot of research, take your time, shop around, it can get expensive to start out but in the long run it’s the only way to go.

Man, are you in for a treat! Blowing money on camping farkles is second only to blowing money on motorcycle farkles.

Have you ever camped before at all? I'll keep my eyes peeled for bargains and pass them your way.

I'm also new the adventure bike world and camping world (I live in Houston's concrete jungle). Any advice, tips, etc that y'all can provide on the camping end of things would be mucho appreciado!

Acutally I'm not completely new to camping, as I went camping a bit when I was in scouts 30+ years ago. Most recently my sense of "roughing it" was driving around in my car with the windows down because the A/C wasn't working! :p

You guys new to camping would be good to pick up on Backpacker magazine...they have an online site with reviews of equipment. Reviewers camp and hike in really bad weather to test the stuff they recommend.

Cheap stuff is bulky, heavy and uncomfortable, either doesn't vent or zippers break or doesn't provide adequate warmth. Good stuff is light and works great...and doesn't have to be expensive.

If you look for the stuff (online) at backpacker.com, you can see reviews by both editors and users; I look for stuff that's two years (or more) old and try to buy on clearance (normally not hard to find 50% off).

Absolute minimum:
    • Tent (I like good solo try to keep below 3 lbs);
      Sleeping pad
Sleeping bag (I how two; a down and a man-made down, one rated at 20 degrees and one at 40...(if gets colder than that, I'm staying in a motel)....I take whichever one fits weather forecast, and both stay warm when wet
Stove (lots of opinions posted on this forum, but I like small, easy to light ones)
      Cup and spork
For pillow, I stuff my clothes into a small, soft sack

Altogether, I can fit the entire kit above into a small backpack I strap on the pillion seat. one half of my pannier is stove, extra fuel and dehydrated food/coffee)

I will also pack a small camping chair, that is really just poles my pad fits into...but, I'm a very minimalist kind of guy.

Hmm, Just saw this post.

This sounds promising Venture. BUT, like others I may be more for the motel then camp site, been there done that (and I have no gear suitable to carry on the ST for camping).

Lets try and keep this moving and find a good set of dates. How's Sept 17-18?
