Hi,

I'm new to this forum and just wanted to say hello ::012::

I'm early 60s and have been biking for about 35 years. I currently own a 2013 Kawasaki Versys 1000 and am considering changing it for a Tenere, so I'll be reading what you all have to say about the bike.

This would be my first Yamaha and I've already had a short test ride to see if I feel comfy with the bike, a longer demo ride is planned very soon and I hope this will help me to make a decision

The Versys is a very capable machine which is often overlooked it is also extremely comfortable for both rider and pillion which is important as SWMBO likes the comfy Versys so I was wondering how others on this forum found the comfort of the Tenere, plus its important to consider reliability and running costs etc.

Anyhow, enough from me for now

Rog ::008::

Hi Rog, a warm welcome from Lancashire ::004::
It's hard to find fault with the S10. Comfort wise, I don't usually ride with a pillion, I can spend all day on it easily. MPG is good as well, I would get 52-55 mpg but since having the ECU flash it's usually in the mid to high 50s. No issues with reliability either, so all in all I would thoroughly recommend one ::008::

Hi Tyke
The S10 is ideal for blasting round them Cumbrian roads.
Up there most weekends and its perfect for both swinging round the twisties from Ulverston to Ravensglass in S mode, then swap to T mode and fire over Wrynose & Hardnot pass for a nice cup of Tea in Ambleside.

Thanks for the welcome and comments guys

I have now booked a longer (all day) test ride for next Tuesday, and am already beginning to suspect that my wallet is about to be raided :D

I''ll keep ya posted on developments and if I go for it I'll be choosing a ZE.....mmmmm now should it be Blue or White ::)

One more question if I may, and it regards luggage. what's the consensus about Yamaha's own luggage or maybe an aftermarket brand like Givi. We dont tour much at all nowadays but will be enjoying weekend away, and I'll be fitting my Givi Maxia Topbox as a priority as SWMBO doesn't like pillion without top box.

Any suggestions would be appreciated ::008::

Welcome.

I've done nearly 7000 miles on mine since February (mostly commuting Wimborne to Bristol 3 times a week). Comfort is about the same as my old DL650, i.e. after around 1.5 hours I get fidgety. MPG is much lower; thrashing it cross country will see it return 42mpg, lightly caning it across country will get 46mpg, I don't do sedentary or motorways, I'm sure you will get better if you do. But on the plus side the service intervals are much longer.

I have a big Givi topbox on mine which I moved over from my last bike, it works OK. Can't vouch for the standard boxes as I've never used them.

Cheers Frez, I don't do motorways either..... 'B' and 'A' roads for me wherever possible.

I'm looking forward to getting the new bike which should be next week, I've ordered a Blue ZE.

I also have a Big 55Ltr monokey box which I'll be transferring to the new top box plate, I might also invest in one of the new givi trekker 42ltr monokey top boxes for when I'm on the bike solo, which is 90% of the time.

We doin't tour as much as we used to so I'm in two minds about side cases, as I don't really think I need to spend a lot of money on something I'l hardly ever use

Hi Tyke,
I'm approaching 30k on mine. No pillion. I use SWMotech Evo pannier carrier with Givi 21 litre panniers most of the time. I have a permanent fixed Duratool tool box on the rear carrier. I modified the SWMotech to also carry Duratool cases ( Pelican copy) . More than enough storage and the whole thing is removed in minutes.

I know of several riders who take pillions on week long tours with the tenere. No problems.
