I just noticed that Scorpion is releasing a new lid this year - the EXO-500. This one looks to be a winner. It's got all the features of the EXO-1000 like the drop down visor and inflatable cheek pads, but at the price point of the EXO-700.

Sadly hi-vis is not an option on any of them. :( I currently am in an EXO-700 and it fits me like a glove.

This does appear to have some nice features. I have an EXO 700 and like it a lot.
The 500 is not Snell certified and the 700 is. It Seems that Scorpion has dropped the Snell rating
on all the new helmets. I would buy this if it got good reviews from Sharp. Oh, and it fit. lol

The Snell rating is highly questioned, and in this case I think that Scorpion dropped it because it allows them to keep the weight down on the helmet. From what I understand from the Snell rating requires two hits to the same exact spot on the helmet to pass a certain G-force measure, but the disagreement is that the same spot is almost never hit on the helmet twice, so the manufacturers end up making other tradeoffs in helmet design to meet this certification. Of course I don't know what the true rationale is behind dropping the Snell rating, but from what I've read and seen in objective testing Snell is not necessarily what it's cracked up to be.

I agree on the old Snell rating, however that has changed. Someone posted this link and the reading
is pretty good. It is just another tool that can be used for buying a helmet.

This is some more good reading...http://tinyurl.com/mv23uy

I don't know if this will change much, but maybe they can all get together and make a better helmet.

It appears that ECE refers to the Unitied Nations helmet standard known as Regulation no. 22. I have read several studies regarding helmet safety standards and ratings and have found that the studies never state conclusively that any one standard is better than the other. Helmets that carry any of the various safety certifications that meet U.S. DOT minimums are good enough for me. Here is a link to the ECE document. It's only a lot of reading if you actaully read it all.....

No comment on the EXO-500 but as for helmet ratings, now that Snell, DOT, and ECE are all compliant with each other more testing and certifications means better helmets IMO.

The inside retractable visor is kind of like the one on my old Navy flight helmet, very useful. I will likely get one of these for that and for the obvious superior ventilation which is needed for riding in hot, humid weather.

I've read enough about Snell to come to the opinion that their ratings are mostly self-serving to Snell more than valuable measures of how helmets will protect riders in the most common crashes.

Something I like about Scorpion helmets is their face shields. They are anti-fog, reasonably priced and very easy to remove and replace.
With some helmet brands one could get another (cheap) helmet for the cost of a new face shield.

I agree with you guys that have the EXO 700. Great helmet. Comfortable and quiet w/ a nice visor system. The only complaint I have with mine is that I can't "crack", the face shield up just a tiny amount for ventilation. The first detent going up opens the shield over an inch! Hope they fixed that with the 500.

how is a single layer of plastic fog proof?
They have a coating on the face shield that prevents fog. I have never had a problem with fogging, so I guess it works. :D
I wear some type of glasses all the time and have problems with those.

The EXO 500 has a "crack" setting on the visor lever which is described in the video, but the say that you really don't need it because of the fog free visor and the superior ventilation.

I like Scorpions a lot. However the 1000 inner glass shaded caused some vision issued for me. I would try that one on first for sure.

Got caught in some moderate rain on the way home from work. It was quite warm and humid, but the shield on my EXO-500 didn't fog up even a little. When they said fog resistant, I was skeptical, but this shield truly was fog free, and the rain rolled off like it had rain X on it. It fits kind of tight, though. I usually wear a large and I had to exchange it for an XL.
