And this forum and it's members, their sensibilities, insight, and deconstruction of everything Super Ténéré got me on board, in spades; I bought the bike! A new 2014 (blue) XT1200Z to be exact.
My motorcycle CV was previously more dirt oriented, I raced motocross, hare scrambles and ISDT (the "T" might date me), and have owned only one road oriented motorcycle; a Kawasaki Concourse that I got for next to nothing, fixed up and sold for more then I paid for it...
I'm now a Super Ténéré owner for virtually all of the reasons everyone else here has offered for owning; it's a versatile, low drag, and now without a place to work on a bike important for me -- a low maintenance machine.
To my pleasant surprise, so far it also seems to be a very well behaved, balanced and forgiving machine for it's weight and power -- no disappointments so far, I think (thanks to this forum) I was made fairly well aware of all the limitations and shortcomings.
