Greeting from Omaha, Ne , just bought my first Adventure bike which happens to be a 2012 Tenere. I have been a Harley owner since starting to ride many years ago. Have 2 in the garage. I have so many things to learn concerning this new machine , My wife is sad because I have been spending so much time in the garage taking the bike apart to see how it was put together. ( Habit I have had since I was a child). The engineering on this machine is amazing and from my limited insight very well built. I bought my Tenere for the sole purpose of going to Alaska . I have 15 month before retirement and have been planning my dream trip for the last 2 years . Originally planned to ride my Ultra however the more reading and research I did sent me in the direction of Adventure riding. With vast country I want to see there was not way I would be able to do on my Ultra. My plan is to leave May 17 2017 for 5 months with most of the time spent in Alaska. My wife will fly and meet me some time during the trip as she will not ride 2 up on the Tenere . My feelings aren't hurt... I look forward to things yet to be learned about this exciting form of riding and have found many informative subjects within this web site. So glad t be a member of this forum.

After over 20 years of street only riding I suddenly go the DS but as well, sure is nice to be able to take that dirt road with a bike that handles amazing off tarmac, as on.

Welcome aboard! Have you ridden on the dirt before? If not, I would recommend taking an Adventure bike riding class/seminar, as the reduced traction available in dirt, sand, mud and rocks makes for a much different riding experience than cruising down the highway! Enjoy your new ride, and make sure to post a ride report here when you do go to Alaska!

Thanks AVGEEK for the advise about taking a off road riding course . I have been looking into some of the course other riders have posted . Many to choose from just need to find one that meets my requirements...

Welcome, I am a noobe here was well. I just picked up a 2015 ES and it is parked with my Ultra Classic in the garage. What a difference in rides. I love being able to take those roads I have been passing by on the Ultra to do a little exploring. I am keeping the Ultra for the time being but I don't see it getting ridden too much this season. ;D
