Need Just RIGHT Heated Grip Replacement

Good evening... The bar under my throttle grip tube corroded and was causing the grip to stick. During the period it was the worst, I put a few hundred miles on it before I could address it and apparently during that time, the wires going into the right hand heated OEM grip separated. I did try to solder them together, but they've already broken again. I'm willing to give it another shot, but it would just be a lot cleaner to be able to replace just the right side. BUT, I cannot find JUST the right heated grip anywhere. Any tips/resources greatly appreciated! Thank you & Happy Holidays!

That is the part number for the throttle side, 14 and up. Someone else will have to say if it is the same as the 12 & 13 because I don't know.

That's a good question. The Gen I bikes had an optional heated grip kit - p/n 23P-H29A0-V0-00 and I'm not sure if the dealer can order parts for that kit or not. I can't find any individual part break down for that kit.

The Gen I kits had a three terminal plug, IIRC. The Gen II kits which can be ordered individually since they were not an accessory, but an included item on ES bikes, have individual two pin plugs. But I've never seen the Gen I kit since I just used Sympatex heated panels on my own grips and a Heat Troller to control them.

Question for the OP - Do you have the Yamaha accessory kit? Big round knob controller that says Yamaha on it and is usually mounted off the left grip or mirror bolt?

And does anyone know if that controller is picky about ohms resistance in the heating elements? The Gen II kits are controlled thru the ECU, so have to be a specific low ohm resistance. Because the Gen I controller is just a plain device, it may not be so picky.

I happen to have a Honda factory right grip heater unit, new with box and instructions plus some wiring. No controller or throttle tube. It measures just over 1" ID, so will fit over any standard throttle tube. This is the same style as the Gen I bikes use with a remote control mounted with the grips. You may need to splice some wires or make an adapter, but it would otherwise plug right in and just work. $45 shipped to your door if you want it. PM if you have questions or want pics.

You can also buy a set of Oxford heated grips so as to have a matchung set and save money over the cost of the one OEM grip even if it would work.

That's part of the problem. The Gen I bikes, (2010-2013), use what you have, with an external controller. The Gen II bikes, (2014-on), use the ECU for control, so it's hard to say if the grip heater units are the same as ones that use the external control. We do know the ECU won't acknowledge aftermarket grip warmers, but that's not your issue at all. You could order the Gen II part and try it, then let us all know! Of course, that's a $100+ option. The Oxfords are nice and warm and are about the same, but for the whole kit.

another option, a replacement Oxford throttle side grip for $22 with free shipping! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oxford-Heaterz-Touring-Replacement-Heated-Grip-Throttle-side/362000754631?hash=item5448ed27c7:g:J1sAAOSwX9FZNoic&vxp=mtr

FWIW, We do have 7/8" bars at the grip area. That puts the throttle tube at right around 1".

The Ebay grips are 120mm long and I think the S10 will need 130MM.

These are what I have used for three years and they work great. They have an intelligent heat controller that will shut them off if the battery gets low or the charging system goes down. https://www.amazon.com/Oxford-OF690Z-Heaterz-Adventure-Handlebar/dp/B009T4P1DE/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1514081465&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=oxford+adventure+heated+grips&psc=1&smid=A4PDWTZEDPJU9

The 120mm grip leaves a nice gap for the VistaCruise. ;D That's how I had my 2012 set up. No issues with slightly shorter grips.

The Honda throttle side heated grip I have was originally for a Goldwing and is 130mm long. It's used with the same type of external controller as the Yamaha. It's the same type of three wire connector to the main harness and uses simple bullet connectors from the grip wires to the harness, easy to adapt to the Yamaha harness. I'm virtually positive this will work perfectly with the Gen I Super Ten system as they are set up exactly the same way. I'll drop the price to $35 shipped. Again, this is brand new. The wife bought a full new kit when she needed just the left side on her GL1800 years ago. It's just been sitting in the box in the garage, still has the install instructions and box too. No notifications going on now, so please PM if you're interested. I'd love to see it go away, but also help fix someone's issue at the bargain price instead of getting soaked by Yamaha for $100+ for one grip.

Update to this OLD post. I finally got around to installing the honda right grip from you, EricV and ran into some issues. The right grip (honda one) heats up GREAT, but the left grip (OEM yamaha) doesn't heat up at all. It worked before. So, I'm wondering if there's something about differing resistance in the honda grip that maybe isn't allowing the controller to heat the left one? ...OR maybe my left one has also died coincidentally? The right one failed because of pinched wires. The left is intact and appears fine. Thanks for any insights!
