I got this hack from a farm in Bathurst NSW. The old farmer used it to get around on his farm. Needless to say it was in really bad shape. Its not a full rebuild but it has had a lick of paint, engine freshen up, upholstery done. All electrics and carbs and airbox replaced with CR carbs. It has a steerlite triple tree that is a God send. I love it, as it puts smiles on peoples faces and my son thinks its an absolute blast.
All up I have had the bike for 7 years and only just getting it reliable enough to ride. Carburettors were horrible to set. Tried 3 different mechanics at exorbitant prices but it never came good. Almost gave up. It was an ex racer that had heaps of experience with CR's and bikes from this era that managed to get the best from this old beast.

Going to spend some time with the son on day trips or short trips away. So excited. ;D
Sorry if the video is a bit shaky. It was a quick camera job.

Most excellent!

Which GS is that?
Don't remember the Black with blue stripe here in the states.
I have fond memories of an 81 GS1000E. Black. No stripe.

Its a 1980 GS1000G Shaft Drive. The colour is original as are the pin strips. The chair is the same.

Yea. The G was shaft drive. Now I remember! I was way too young to realize how cool that drive shaft was. Instead, I didn't want to give up any rwhp on it.
About the only issue the GS1000's had was if you beat on them real hard the clutch basket fingers let go. I think we would mod them by adding a metal ring around the outside of the basket.

Again, that is really cool. That big grin from the passenger was the best part.

Yeah, I love seeing my sons grin.
The clutch is a concern of mine given the weight of the outfit. I have put in heavy clutch springs but don’t know how the rest of the clutch would go. Sidecar limits top speed substantially, so clutch may survive yet.
