I couldn’t help myself. The sun was out and it felt warm for a change … maybe 10 degrees or so. I’m by myself returning home after an errand and decide to take a quick blast up to the motor cross track to get in a little off road practice, which I haven’t had much of on the Super yet. Nothing serious, just want to get a better feel for the bike off-road and check out the new pegs, risers, et al. Anyway, there are already way too many guys on the track, so I decide to check out some of the half-track (quad size) roads in the area.

I’m blasting along having a good time navigating through a lot of really slimy shit and small mud lakes. I get turned around and heading back and am about to enter a small mud puddle I just passed through a few minutes ago, except this time I’m maybe two or three feet to the right of my original line. Big mistake. I drop into a huge hole and immediately go down on the left side. The front wheel comes out of it, but after I get her stood back up I see the rear wheel is buried and the level of the mud is almost covering the drive shaft.

Of course you’ve got to try and drive out, right? Wrong! The back wheel is up against a vertical wall and not coming out under power. Well then, surly I can lift her out, right? Wrong! We’re talking serious sucktivity here! I ponder my options and consider waking out … for about a microsecond.

There’s only one way to do this: I stand aside and let her slowly fall back over on the left side so the rear wheel unglues itself from the muck. I get down in the hole in mud up to my calves and start dragging the rear over to the edge of the abyss. It’s hard work, and I’m covered in goo, but I make progress and eventually get her back up and on more or less solid ground.

Dammit, I wish I had my camera with me! Damage report reveals a slightly bent shifter and side case scratches from dragging her over the mud. As I sit here writing this (having consumed a couple) I realize my shoulder is in some pain and that it’s time to go get another one.

Thanks for the concern, guys. I'll be OK.

Doesn't take much to get my shoulders hurting these days. Must have done it while dragging her out of the mud. She's definitely no featherweight. ???

What do they call it again. Character building.

You know, It's better to have stories like that than, I broke down and had to get towed stories I reckon. ::008::

Glad you're okay! Yeah, the bike washes up fine and parts can be replaced/repaired, whereas we are stuck with some of our parts when they get damaged...

Great work mate.
Good to see the bike getting ridden in anger... ;)

A few character witness marks give the latte sipping BMW guys something to point at and whisper about when you ride past Starbucks. ::26::

If it aint got a few scratches, you're no where near the edge..!!!

Quite seriously though - They dont crash too bad for such a big machine.

Uh, what's a latte?

Good you went for another. ::003:: You got to keep excercising that shoulder ! ::015::
I couldn't agree more. Plenty of "exercise" and ibuprofen work for me every time. ::008::

On the technical side:
I have to say the Rox risers are hands down the best mod I've done so far (well, maybe tied with the Oxford heated grips). They have really improved both my on and off road ergonomics.
I found the Pivot Pegz don't allow my foot to get in under the shifter as easily as the stock pegs: Even though they pivot, they don't quite pivot far enough for my large feet. I do like them better than stock, so will make a minor adjustment to the shift linkage.
I did a TB sync last year using a home-made manometer, and at that time felt like I had improved the off-throttle response. After putting her through the paces yesterday I see there is much room for improvement. I did purchase a Harmonizer but have not hooked it up yet to see where the TBs are at. I also have not played with the CO settings yet. Perhaps a re-sync and a setting of say, 6 on the CO will improve matters?
