Been on a quest for the perfect windscreen for some time. Immediately after taking the S10 off the lot I knew the stocker wouldn't work over 20 MPH (seriously the vibrating beak on my XD3 was driving me insane).
Started out with a CalSci Med. There was very little improvement over stock for me and I immediately returned it for a large.
Large CalSci was tolerable but there was still quite a bit of turbulence at the top of the helmet rattling my vents. The screen was also very large and I could not go larger. The large size also dropped my fuel economy by about a 2 mpg, not good. One big complaint on the CalSci screens was the edges are what I consider unfinished and rough, considering the cost this was not acceptable. I sold the large screen and was debating on the next option, V-Stream or MRA Vario, I chose MRA for no particular reason other than I have not heard many complaints and I continuously hear praise on other bikes.
I took my first ride this morning with the MRA Vario screen. I had the wing extended out to near it's limit despite the manufacturer's suggestion of 10-20 mm gap. I will play with this as I evaluate. My first impressions are this is a great screen, I still had air around my helmet but it was clean air and not turbulent in the least with the exception of a strong cross-wind (can't blame the screen for that). I didn't get up to freeway speeds yet but can say that I will be keeping this screen as it is far better than any other option tried to this point and is only a bit taller than stock.
Comments regarding MRA installation, fit, and Finish: The MRA screen looks nice, the edges are finely finished but sanded not molded and clear like the stocker and V-stream. The screen is meant to be positioned in the high position and I do not think the low position is an option but I could be wrong (did not try). I bought the Smoke version as the pictures online made it appear as light gray, this was not the case. The screen is a medium gray on par with most legal auto tints. I would not choose a screen darker than this but it is in my range of acceptable tints and does not limit vision of the road. If this concerns you go clear but the smoke does look good. The screen is much wider than stock and a little taller but it is small enough that it doesn't appear much larger while riding. This is a great screen for those venturing off-road and don't want a large piece of Plexiglass just under their chin. The wing seems to work even though I have not began the trial and error on adjustments. For those who have not seen the wing, it moves in and out parallel to the screen I presume to accelerate or guide an air curtain. There is no tilting of the wing but there is about an inch and a half of adjustment on multiple detentes. My experience so far is entirely positive. ::001::
