MRA Touring screen with spoiler

The good folks at off-the-road.de offered the MRA windscreen with spoiler. As I had excellent results with that screen on my DL650, I decided to order it to combat the poor windprotection I experience with the S10 OEM screen.

I got a call from the store a day after I placed the order. Unfortunately the MRA was out of stock, but they offered me the MRA touring screen, and they would add the MRA spoiler on it. Sounded even better to me, so the order was placed. 3 days later, it arrived!

It's a little bit wider, and has a different cut at the bottom. And ofcourse the highly effective spoiler at the top!

The windscreen also has a blacked out bottom edge, which blends in nicely with the bike

Here you can see the adjustable spoiler and the Waspworks windscreen bracket. The spoiler eliminates buffeting by lifting the airstream over your head. Worked great on the DL650, testride will follow to find out of it works the same way on the S10!

Anxious to hear your "on the road" report. Like you, I have used the Vario on a V-Strom and liked it, although I always felt the Madstad bracket offered more.

Good luck!!

:)

Those MRA screens are really well made bits of kit. I've had several on various machines. The adjustable flip is a great concept. I'm going to put one of those Touratech screen extensions on my XT1200Z though.

Unfortunately....no.

Took a ride yesterday. The windscreen adjuster works beautifully. The MRA screen works beautifully.

Sadly I'm just too friggin' tall! With the screen in the heighest position, I still have buffeting. When I croutch down 5-10cm, it all goes away...there's a huuuuge pocket of calm smooth air, but when I sit up straight it's just not tall enough...Same problem I had with the DL650.

Next step will be a mod to the Waspworks bracket so it allows me more playroom. Shouldn't be too difficult. I actually expected this outcome as I knew that the replacement MRA screen was not much taller then the stock screen.

Finally got around to taking a few pics outside though, will up them here!

Noooooooooo!!! STOP..

Humor me for a moment. Do like in the picture.

1/ Fit the standard windscreen back on to the MotorradWorks adjustable bracket.
2/ Raise the bracket to the full highest position and the full back (closest to you) position.
3/ Tilt the bottom of the windscreen forward (away from you) so that the bottom tip "V" of the screen is vertically plumb with the front of the bubble on your headlight protector...
4/ Ride and evaluate.

I am 5'11" and I ride with my screen similar to this but 1" lower, and with my seat in the high position.
Try this position and perhaps tilt back or forth slightly. I am sure you will find a calm spot around this area for high speed touring.

Greg.

P.S - I also have the MotorradWorks rear suspension raising kit and that lifts the back another 1" again.

Hi Greg,

The extreme back angle has been tried, and it works, IF you're not 6ft6 tall. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the windshield OR the bracket, trust me. It's my freakishly tall body that's causing the problem :)

The MRA screen arrived just last week, I had the OEM screen on the bracket for a few weeks, no matter what angle it was in, it just didn't lift the air over my helmet.

I'll give the MRA another go with the angle you described though!

TooTall, you might also consider the CalSci screen along with Greg's bracket.

Good luck!!!

Thanks, too bad I'm not made of money :) I'm going to try to make this work, only if it's not solvable I'll start looking for another screen; I made the mistake of switching screens on the V-Strom way to much, costs alot and people want to pay next to nothing for a screen used +/-100km :(

Yeah, I hear you!!! I usually wait as long as I can before ordering a new screen or saddle for ANY new bike. Read/research/etc and still it's a science as we are all different!

Screens are more art than science it seems. So many factors affect the windflow on a bike it's tough to find what works without trial and error.

Yes, very true. Even with doing all the research when ordering my last screen (CalSci) for the FJR, I still found it necessary to cut it down 1.5" as it was too tall. For the next person with the same height, it could very well have been too short!!

I think the thing that has the most effect, actually has nothing to with the screen. When I wear textile gear I get buffeting, and when I wear my custom leather I don't. I don't think it's the textile that causes the buffeting - I think it is the bulk, the lumps, and the flapping that come from wearing a jacket that has a softer construction and doesn't fit very well. The air doesn't flow smoothly over the rider, and as a result you feel it pummeling you and hear it roaring around you. I bet if I wore an ill-fitting leather jacket, I'd get the same results I get with textile.

So here's a silly question...

...is there a way to move the position of the screen bracket? Normally there are 2 - 3 settings to install an OEM screen on a motorbike, is this bike just 1 fixed position? Can't seem to find a way to adjust the windscreen bracket up or down...

Anyone?
