Jason at ADVMotorrad didn't have the 45L top box when I went to order, so I bought direct from Europe and paid a lot of shipping for a box of air. Good email communication, easy payment, and no hassle in dealing with Holan. The benefit to buying from ADVMotorrad is that he bulk ships.

Love the box. Well built, stout, and well painted in black. Been using it for over a month and it near daily swallows my soft briefcase with the 15" Dell laptop, a toolkit, cable lock, lunch, spare helmet visor, etc. The box will hold a Large Shoei Qwest with a Sena SMH10 on the side plus other junk. My only minor nit is that I wish the box had a lanyard to keep the lid from hanging on the hinges when fully open, but I can add that.

My bad in not ordering the locks to come with the box, so I ordered from Jason and had them a day or two later. What threw me was that the two matched locks arrive with one key. No spare. Huh? We have a good locksmith nearby and I learned that the SP103 with that shape is unique to Germany and Eastern Europe, so I'm sure that is how Jason receives the sets to re-sell. You can't get key blanks easily in the US.

The real reason for this post is to record that a common ILCO Y12 can be slightly modified with a fine cutoff wheel in a dremel tool to work, and th eILCO is at almost any Home Depot or Ace Hardware. Have the key cut as it normally would. In good light, hold the key to the lock and you will see that the top grooves on either side of the key need to be widened slightly. The dremel cutoff wheel does this perfectly. I also had to run a file on both sides of the key to clean off the burrs that the dremel created, or the key was too wide to fit in the slot.

I got one of the last 62 liter Holan top cases from ADVMotorrad and I love this top box. I just don't like the lock design at all. Anyone with a needle nose plier can just unscrew the nut from the lock (you can even use your finger if they nut isn't tightened enough), pull out the lock, and get into the top case. In addition to that, the tumbler action isn't very smooth. I feel like I'm going to break the lock one of these days so I only use them when I really need to.

If anyone knows of a replacement lock with a safer design that fits in the Holan case, I'm all ears.

They are a bit post-boxish. (Which spell check changed to "post-boys" LOL)

On past boxes I've had the nut back off from vibration and long ago began to put a dab of black RTV on the threads after installing the nut. It now comes off without too much problem, but only after using a knife on the RTV and needing a wrench.

Good find Checks.

I ordered a complete Holan three bag set with six locks so I ended up with a spare lock and enough keys. Still, a couple more spares never hurts!
