loose spoke

I have my 1st loose spoke at 11000 miles so its not if
but when is it going to happen . I had put wicking lock tite
on when new but loose spoke had no drag on the nut ? I
wonder if wicking lock tite breaks down over time ?

Sounds to me like a lack of maintenance in that 11,000 miles.
Also, if the spoke was loose, it was more likely a product of use than it was a product of loctite breakdown.
Spoked wheels move and require periodic maintenance. Loctite doesn't change this.

I have witness paint on all my spokes and none have moved, but a couple have required a little tightening to maintain proper tension. Loctite may help in not losing nipples after they've lost tension, but I don't think it treats the underlying cause of them loosing tension.

I lose tension when I relax.

Dang relaxed spokes!

If I put loctite on my chain driven motorcycle's chain will I no longer need to adjust it? Perhaps I should loctite my valves. They won't need adjusting then either, right?

I put Loc-Tite on mine when all the loose spoke threads started. Made sure the wheel was true and have tested the wheels when new tires have been put on. My spokes still have a nice ping and the wheels are true.

I did notice early on, some of the spokes touch each other, and that may give a false dead ping initially. Strike the spokes in a different area to confirm.

I personally think the entire rim/spoke assembly is slightly undersized for the design it is and loads it receives in adventure touring duty. In day-to-day duty bashing about, the spokes, rim, and interface points have a tendency to deflect/stretch/wear and you loose tension, the same as any spoked wheel only more so on one that is under-designed. I'm sure it varies from bike to bike and rider to rider.

I'm not aware of loctite being a recommended thing for spoke nipples on any other motorcycle wheel. If the underlying issue with spoked wheels loosing tension is simply inadvertent rotation of the nipples that can be solved by loctite, I would think all motorcycle wheels would use loctite on the nipples and spoke tightening/maintenance would become something in the past.

The point of lock tite is to not loose the nut when the spoke loosens up but the nut
was spinning free so the lock tite wasn't working . If the nuts couldn't fall off there
would be no need for lock tite . Mabe JB weld is the next step ::025:: There I beat
yall to that one ....goobers .

I currently have 17,100 miles on my bike...........snugged up a few spokes in the first 1000 miles, still check them regularly (today) and they are still tight. I don't ride off-road and the bike is ridden mildly (I don't think it has seen 6500 rpm).

I agree with MarkJenn...........roughness with the bike may lead to loose spokes.
