2013 Tenere, left headlight occasionally does not work, the first time it happened all I had to do was remove the rear cover to wiggle the plug and the light came on and stayed on like it was supposed to, well after that happened a couple more times I put some dielectric grease on the prongs, couple days later it did the same no work thing, so I put in 2 brandnew bulbs, a week later get the same left headlight no work issue. Any ideas what I should try next to hopefully fix this issue ? I haven't been able to notice anything wrong with the plug but I'm guessing that's most likely where the problem is.

Thanks for the tip ! Do you happen to know if all those headlight harnesses were recalled because of a problem similar to the problem I'm having ?

Check the plug. Mine was partly melted before I upgraded the sub-harness. However, the headlight never went off - probably because I did not let the plug deteriorate too much before I changed the sub-harness.

All the 2012 and 2013 were recalled I believe. You can look at the plugs and see if they have been updated pretty easily. If it has been updated, the wiring to the plugs are at least 18awg size, or more or less "normal" size wire you see on motorcycles. If it hasn't been updated it will have real small diameter wire, more in the size of 22awg.

Took the vin number to my local dealer yesterday, yes there was supposed to be a headlight wiring recal on my 2013 Tenere but the dealer I bought it from never did the recall , thier service department must not have been paying much attention because when I looked at it they agreed to fix the left headlight that wasn't working, yes it was working when I picked it up but it's been going out about once a week ever since. they also claimed they checked the air in the tires but the day after I got home the rear tire was at 25 psi , so I pumped it up to 38 and it stayed there until 4,000 miles later when I replaced the tires. They claimed they changed the oil and final drive fluid so now I'm wondering what they ever actually did and didn't do besides wash it.

Had my 2011 done last year when I got the heads up on the recall. The left was dropping out and it's connector was very hot. The wiring on the replacement harness seems more substantial and it solved the problem.

I would find a different dealer. Have them order the new wiring loom and take it in after they get it. Should only take about 1-2 hours depending on if they have done them before. Should end the headlight problem.

Hate it when a dealer's incompetence makes you wonder if you bought the wrong bike.

My local dealer Liskie Marine Honda Yamaha Medford wi replaced the harness today (not the dealer I bought the bike from) this was the first Tenere recall they have done, I rode in , took less than an hour and I rode out, hopefully this puts an end to the issue of left light not working about once a week . ::021::

Yes that's kinda what I was thinking it might be so I didn't say anything at first but last night I rode home in the rain and I'm pretty sure the crappy Yamaha headlights are a little brighter than they used to be.
