I have a last minute trip literally decided to go yesterday (Saturday). It's going to be about 5k miles a lot of slab dince I live in MS and the trip is to Zion National Park in Utah. My current K60 set has 2600 miles on them, basically a trip up through Arkansas the fourth weekend. I have no time to source a new rear K60 as the guys roll out tomorrow morning (Monday). Will my rear last another 5k miles of slabbing up through AR, OK, TX, NM to Zion the straightest and quickest way home in 7 more days?

The rear tire this morning showing 7mm tread at middle stripe. New it had 11mm.

Zoomed out photo of rear tire.

I am not against replacing it out on the road somewhere if I knew I could get a K60. May be necessary for trip home as I am new to these tires and their wear pattern. Seems at my tread usage rate to date on the rear I am not going to get the 10-12k everyone else gets.

Let me hear what I should do. I don't wont to throw a steer tire on the rear, I have a Anakee II with 1500 miles on it but no fun off road with it.

Thanks

Hey, roy. I wouldn't give it a second thought. My (somewhat) brief experience is that they wear like iron. I wouldn't hesitate to take off with those tires. R

Kinda my thoughts but I have been sort of puzzled at the quick 4mm wear at the center rib in only 2600 miles most all slab except few 100 on gravel. I have been running 40 psi cold in the rear.

Just keep the cold pressure at 40 psi rear, 36 front. If you knew where you were going to be on any day, you could have jaxon send you one.

What HoebSTer said, keep your pressures up on the slab, I'll run as high as 42 psi in the rear and 40 in the front for extended highway runs

Good idea. I may do that and if it looks bad once I get there I will know more about where I'm at and go from there. Not planning on being back home until the 24th. I have tools to remove the wheel but no way am I attempting a install of a K60 rear without my no-mar changer. Took two of us to mount it even with that. Wouldn't mind a shop mounting a tire but I am picky about who takes my rear wheel off and reinstalls it reason I tote tools to remove the wheel.

I did a 3k mile trip to North Carolina before the colorado trip. So when I left to colorado I had around 3300 miles on the 60 and looked almost identical to yours. Here is mine after the colorado trip, where I did 4k very hard miles. So 7300 miles on this 60 and many many miles left.

Even with my reduced tire life I'd launch on a 5K mile trip with only 2,600 on them right now. My longest lasting K60 was the one that had the most highway/pavement time on it.

Have a great time at Zion. Love that place. ::008::

The Long way around as you can tell and not across Texas :))

I am leaving tomorrow on a 440 mile rip up to Utah. Based on the advice here regarding tire pressure, I am gonna bump my PSI higher. I have the K60's and love them. Thanks for the advice. I am also going to adjust my suspension for the first time, gonna stiffen it up a little for the twisty ride. With increased pre-load and damping, it should handle better in the curves especially at faster speeds.

I've got over 15k on my K60s, mostly pavement, lots of highway. I'm thinking it's time to order another rear so I've got one ready to put on in 1000 miles or so.

Like Jeff said, keep your pressures right and you should be fine.

Have a great trip! ::008::

Not trying to hijack the thread, but since the OP's question was answered and my comments are along the line of the topic, I wanted to follow up on my previous comment. I increased my PSI to what those recommended here on this thread. I also increased the preload, compression damping, and rebound damping in the suspension. I went out and did a little test ride around some of my favorite high speed corners. There was definitely a positive difference in the handling. I am packing the 14mm box wrench so I can adjust the settings back when I hit the off road stuff and I'll lower the tire pressure.

I recommend to OP that he increase the suspension settings too for the parts of the ride which are highway. I can't help but think if the suspension is adjusted to highway riding, the tires will last a little longer on those settings.
