Are any of you hoodlums having trouble with K60's not sealing against the rim. I have had a slight leak on my front K60 since install 12000km ago. It wasn't bothering me because I was always close to compressed air. It is losing a few pounds of pressure over a week or so. I submerged it in a tub of water and it has fine bubble lines coming from half a dozen places around the rim/bead interface on both sides of the wheel. I de-pressured it and popped the bead at one of the spots and could not see any irregularities. both the rim and tire bead are clean and smooth. ::010::

My first K60 front did the same. Had to add air every week. Kept saying I was going to fix it. Never did.

My second K60 front doesn't leak a bit.

Makes me wonder if their stiff mold is susceptible to less than perfect form.

8oz of Slime helped to slow air loss in my front K60. Definately some quality control issues going on over at Heidenau.

troll did you spoon the K60's on or use a tire machine? I was wondering if the spoons could damage the tire bead?

My front K60 has lost a few pounds a week since fitting some 4.5kmiles ago, fitted by a seasoned fitter on a machine, previous tourance never leaked. As the front seems to tolerate a wide range of pressures I've never bothered to get it fixed (its not punctured and the valve doesn't appear to be leaking from the spit bubble test).

Installed by hand, by me. popped the bead and did not see any damage (thought I might have done as you say). Rear was installed the same way at the same time and does not leak at all. Sounds as though a few of us have this common leaking front K60.

My leaky front was installed with a machine.
My no-leaky front was installed by ME!

I'm a master K60 mounter? :)

Don't know how much of it is a QA thing, or a nature of the beast of the K60 carcass construction.
Dang things are made like an Army tire or something. They will run on almost no air.

I didn't check them often enough when I had the leaky one. I came to a stop at a light and felt it "let go" of the little air it had. Looked down at a flat.

Rode it to the side of the road and aired it up with my trusty aerostich pump. On my way again.

I started checking it more often after that.

if the surface is clean, and the rim undamaged, it's prob. the tire.
My rear K60 was out of round. Returned for refund.

Granted my mitas dakars will not last as long as the K60's but I think it's a better tire over all. Especially in the wet.

They may need a new QA/QC person ::014::

Our local independent BMW shop owner says 8 out 10 Hidies he puts on the GS's and GSA's leak air. I have had no trouble with the 2 sets I have gone through on the S-10.

Mine leaked after it was mounted (with a manual machine). I broke the bead on both sides, lubed them up really well, then reseated and held them at 50 psi overnight. Hasn't leaked since.

That's a great idea. If I get another leaky, I'm sure to try that.

What did you use for a "lube"?

My K60's were mounted by a dealer and have never... well a little in the beginning but I loosened and tightened the valve core and they haven't leaked since.

Next Tuesday my K60's will be replaced with Anakee 3's. Earlier this week we were riding the gravel / potted asphalt / asphalt road through Carrizo Plain and the K60'd Tenere loved the gravel even at 60-70 mph.
