installing a 12v USB and Voltage meter

After I get a dash infill panel, I'm looking at hooking up a USB, 12v plug and a voltage meter. I don't want to splice any wires and go directly to the battery. Can I connect all three leads together and then go to the battery or do I need three separate harnesses to the batt?

While I have a Fuzeblock on the newest bike and agree that it is great, even a wire to a voltmeter ought to be fused. It would be kinda silly to short the voltmeter wire and lose the bike, simply because an unessential item had no fuse protection.


Answer to the OP, yes, you could use one supply wire to the three devices.

totally agree with the fuse(s). I found this on ebay with the jumper wires and fused harness.

That's where I was. LOL There's a "buy" button but it has no function other than to reload the page that shows the FZ1. I did manage to locate it on another vendor's website so I'm good to go. I would prefer to buy it direct so if anyone has any suggestions please feel free. Thanks!

i actually fitted a couple of these units to my boat last year. found several different suppliers and even different versions with different lighting etc.
you can mix n match to suit and I've found they work very well so far

I agree, if you lump the voltmeter in with the other two or connect it to some other shared circuit, my experience is you can get an inaccurate battery voltage reading, in this case, when you place a load on those outlets, voltage read out might be reduced.

I tapped the power from one of the accessory outlet connector, the 3 pin type connector. (at the battery area) . This way, the Key controls the power on and off. There is a drop of 0.3V is using a Voltmeter tapped to this circuit.

Wired an Eastern Beaver power block directly to battery, and tapped one of the switched outlets.

Motorcycle electrical systems are notorious for being "flakey", unreliable, and / or underpowered.

The S10 is excellent in it's electrical supply robustness. Not so much in long term harness integrity (switches, connectors, etc).

Any cycle with an oil bath submerged stator, gets a voltmeter on the dash.

This is my version. I wired them all together and then to a Centech fuse panel that I already had installed under the seat. If there's a voltage drop when the 12v or usb outlets are used that's not a problem for me as I know the reason why. I incorporated a waterproof switch to isolate the panel. I also switched the usb/volt meter positions due to clearance.

The fuse issue has been covered well, but I definitely would not go direct to the battery. The voltmeter in particular, but also the LED's in the other devices will draw the battery down eventually. I have used a number of those types of devices. The voltmeter's have been rock solid as have the cigarette lighter type outlets, but I've had poor luck with the USB devices. The ones I'm using now have lasted longer than any of them, but I've had several fail, including mere minutes after the installation.

I replaced the Yamaha 12 Volt Plug with a 2 USB outlets (2.1 and 1 Amp) and Voltmeter that I bought in Aliexpress.

It fits in the 12 Volt Plug with some very minor grinding. Just unplug the Yamaha Volt Plug and replace it with the new unit.
