I got an email from IBA today cerfifying my Bun Burner Gold. My plate surround/pin/certificate would be in my mailbox shortly. Feeling pretty smug, 8) I popped onto the IBA website to see if my name had been added to the list. Not yet. IBA is a totally volunteer organization, so it takes a while for the website to get updated.

Curious, I searched to see if other Tenere riders were listed and tripped over the entry below. Talk about humbling! Nick, my hat goes off to you. This is the sickest, most extreme ride devised by man. 50,781 miles in less than 50 days! WOW! ??? I do not deserve to share digital space with you.

Also goes to show that the Tenere is up for whatever challenge you can throw at it. This is one reliable beast!

I thought Nick did 50K miles in 100 days, not 50 days.. ??? Is this correct?

According to the IBA website, Nick completed that monster ride in 49 days, 11 hours and 39 minutes. In truth, even if completed in 100 days, it's still one heck of a feat.

If time and money were no object, I'd love to attempt something like that. Not sure my a$$ could take it - even with my Russell Day Long.

It WAS actually around 100 days for the 3 "laps" of the Americas, but only the second and third were part of the record attempt. The first leg was guiding something like 20 riders, so no chance of making good time under those conditions. So the 49 days, 11 hours and 39 minutes is correct for two lengths of the Americas, not three.

Must confess I leave the Tenere at home and ride a Goldwing when I take to the highway.
No confession needed. The Wing is the gold standard for LD comfort (pun intended). I very nearly bought one instead of the Tenere. The focus at the time was a proposed trip from Dallas to Alaska and back. I tipped over to the Tenere because of the usually harsh road conditions in Alaska. I am still leaving for Alaska on June 30th. Sadly, the Tenere will stay in the garage. We're flying up and renting KLR's. Oh well, it will still be a blast and I will have a great machine waiting for me at the house.

To each their own. I salute those who enjoy the challenges and thrills of the marathon riding, but I am ok with doing a couple hundred miles tops in one day then sipping cold beer the rest of the day. Again, I am not trying to insult anyone, but I am ok in the pillow butt category. Congrats to those who achieved their goals on these great bikes!!!

+2 on 'to each his own.' I ride for enjoyment and view iron butt rides as punishment. I did half of an Iron but once just as moral support for a friend..it's not my cup of tea, but I also know plenty of people who enjoy that sort of thing.

::026:: what he said - couldn't say it better. My riding is mostly back and forth to work... about 120km a day. big rides for me are around 500-600km with time for the cold beer ::014::
