I wore through my mitas dakar rear tire. Lasted a staggering 7700km ::013::
Again, I do ride quite slow, and conservatively, always striving to preserve fuel and my tires O:)
Before everyone gets on the ::009::
I have to say, that I like this tire, a lot. Great in the gravel, off road etc. Cleans well.
Grips well on pavent wet or dry. Yes when you are in S and TC 1 or 2, the rear will step out on you in 1st and 2nd, especially when leaned over. Does not bother me.

Is this the E07 Dakar?. Don't you feel it too hard in wet?
I'm looking to have ones, they look ok for a 50/50 use, are they?

I have the E10 and prefer the "non Dakar" ones (softer), more grip.

Hi Jamie,

the dakar is the tire with the yellow stripe (E-07) : http://www.mx1canada.com/mitas-e07-dakar-rear-motorcycle-tire.html
I didn't have any complaints in the rain. It does move under a heavy throttle.

I have a dakar on the front now, and a 50/50 (http://www.mx1canada.com/mitas-e07-dual-sport-rear-tire.html) on the rear

There is a difference in the two tires. Dakar is a 4 ply (stiffer side wall, and as tested by me quite effective, I lost air in the front, due to me mounting the tire wrong, and it held fine)
the 50/50 is a 3 ply tire, and that's what i'm trying now on the back

I think long life is a philosophical matter based on many variables: where you ride, how fast you ride, what load the tires are haulin, etc. I just put on 14K miles and destroyed 1 rear Mitas E07 Dakar, 1 rear Heidenau K 60 scout and half of each in the front. K60's are great tires, but when it comes to off-roading, Mitas are definitely a step above, at least in my book. You don't have to go up them northern haul roads to see that, all you have to do is to find your local metal deck bridge and run each set over it.
I would say that better, or more confident off road handling it's due to a different chevron pattern in 07 Mitas with longer solid blocks and lack of center strip in the rear, at least in our size. Based on my most recent experience that involved well paved interstates, back roads of ND and MT, alcan, klondike, dempster, TOTW highway, dalton, steese, parks, glenn, richardson, cassair - now most of these roads are basically either sealed rock chips or small asphalt looking stones sealed, I am sure there is a DOT term for all that, but they are rough compared most but not all of the lower 48 roads, interstates or local. So unless you are crawling within the speed limit with an empty or slightly loaded bike, in either of the northern countries, it's not possible to get good mileage out of any tire. Fronts aside, last year rear K60 scout lasted me close to 13.5K miles. This year only half as much on the rear. Why? Variables changed - pavement, speed, load. Scouts did not last any longer going South then the Mitas 07 Dakar going North. This was my first Mitas 07 Dakar set and I got to run both brands on same or similar roads, on the same trip and I am really impressed with Mitas. Having said that, both brands are great, both endured a lot of use and high speed abuse, both got me there and back home in the same body without any flats or other incidents! I love both brands, but will put a set of Mitas E07 just before I head up the Dempster again when they complete the Inuvik - Tuktoyaktuk extension.

very interesting wear.
What pressure do you run in your mitas?
I'm on my second set now, not sure how long the rear will last.

my biggest rear tire killer is....my right wrist, on gravel.
If I get 10xxxkm out of the rear I will be happy.

overall, i'm very happy with the tires.
Have them on my frankestrom, and they provide lots of confidence in off road situations, where the bike has no business being.

32-33 psi is what I ran in them according to the tire gauge. Basically manufacturers spec. No airing down.

very odd.

I have a three ply 50/50 e07 on the back, and a Dakar on the front.
I'm not holding my breath on the rear.
If I see 8 thousand km out if it, I will be happy.
Granted, I have put it through hell (both on and off road). Pics to follow.

that said, it's a great off road tire, and a very decent on road tire. Maybe it's too soft for how I treat it
