My place of employment requires that an identification badge be displayed when entering the gate. All identification badges now must be surrendered to the security personnel who will, scan it, verify the scan, then return the badge. This makes traditional badge holders problematic and time consuming. I constructed this holder last spring and it has worked quit well. The security persons are liking it because of the quick transition time. It is handy for State Park passes as well. I used cutting board material for the backing to the badge holder.

Haha... I know your pain. I work at a similar location. I keep my ID in my tank bag, but it requires I put my bike in neutral, unzip the bag, grab my ID, then provide the ID to the guard. That's a really good idea though. I'd like to do the same. What did you use for the card holder?

The establishment I work for furnishes the badge/ID/CAC holders. Not sure where they obtained them. You need to get one that the badge snaps into so the wind does not dislodge it. Unsuccessfully tried to glue the badge holder to the cutting board material, still need to find a glue that will work.

Nice idea.

Cutting boards are typically HDPE, which is essentially milk jug material. Very little will stick to it, or stay once stuck.

How about using self adhesive velcro?
Providing they are only scanning a barcode, as opposed to inserting the card into a reader, it should work fine.

I used to keep mine in the side pocket of a rucksack. I could easily swing it far enough to activate the gate barrier.

Depending on the nature of the security person they will go as far as, inspect each side of the badge, scan the badge, compare the image on the badge to the scanner image, and compare you to the likeness of the scan. 95% of the time the badge has to be physically surrendered to the security person. That is why I spent the time to put together the badge holder.
