How to tell Yamaha about the problems which we have?

I like my Tenere but I'm a little concerned about the faults which I/we have (and will have).
Unfortunately I'm also a little disappointed for the quality.
Is the telling dealer the only way to be heard, to be heard effectively and to get results?
I don't know. If someone had a good idea or good connections to factory.

Please don't shoot me for the opening this topic. ;)

It's important to know what your goals are in your complaints.

If you just want to inform Yamaha of your complaints to provide them helpful feedback for the future, you should be able to do this through your importer's contact. I don't know about Finland, but typically they have both email and telephone contacts on their web page. I don't think there is any standard way to contact Yamaha directly in Japan - all communication is handled through the importer.

You say you are expecting "results"from your complaint. If you're expecting Yamaha to do something about the problem (e.g., fix something or give you your money back), then you have to start with the dealer and escalate if you don't get satisfaction. Yamaha will ALWAYS direct the customer back to the dealer as a first point of contact for problems.

Sorry, I don't have any secret inside contact within Yamaha.

If you want Yamaha USA and the Tech Reps to know what you Think / Want... just keep posting. In a small way they have been here since the beginning and it has grown since the July 2011 release of the 2012 Super Tenere. The West Coast Tech Rep is supposed to own a Super Tenere. If we give them complete positive information the better the chance we have to get the problems / concerns considered and corrected. Talk to your dealer... meet your Yamaha Tech Rep.

And this comes from a guy that has revisited my negative attitude towards factory and dealer response times. I have the ear of both... its working.

I am not seeing a number of problems here with YAMAHA. Few nit picky things with a few bikes nothing major to throw in the towel

Re: How to tell Yamaha about the faults what we have?

Please do not misunderstand me.
Starting this topic I didn't mean to complain anything.
Just to try to get you to think about how to get Yamaha to hear our problems better/faster and maybe react faster.
As an example I did use the headlight wire harness issue because Dallara didn't get a new good quality wire harness.
And also that's why most of us have that kind of wire harness.
Obviously there is no other way and it is quite clear the dealer must be the first whom to tell.

I'm a little concerned about the quality. Yamaha's quality was the factor why I chose Tenere instead of BMW.
Actually I didn't even think about BMW. Reliability is the most important think to me not a brand.
I like my Tenere very much. Especially it's handling, how stable and easy it is.

And perhaps it's not just a little problem if you don't get your bike started for example.
That man/woman may be quite

In the USA there is a method that one can complain online about all manner of products if it is safety issue check here
www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq
I also posted this up in the "cooked headlamp harness" thread
www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=2707.120

Personally I feel it is best to contact the Yamaha/motorcycle shop where the XT12 was originally purchased from new. Next would be to check if Yamaha motorcycles has a country specific website with contact information or method to handle issues. The next step is to check if one's government has any type of consumer protection initiative, and follow whatever procedures maybe required there. If all else fails then there is a safety recall website in the USA. Already there is a complaint about a Yamaha XT12 with the frequently reported loose spokes issue.

There is also a recall website, which is worth book marking, that handles recalls for a range of products.
www.recalls.gov

Even if one is not resident in the USA or bought their XT12 from the USA, but one feels their bikes problem is of a significant safety issue, then I see no harm in posting up a complaint if the same type of government initiative doesn't already exist in ones own/relevant country. After all in the case of the XT12 they are all manufactured in Japan. If this is one method that Yamaha Japan get to know about it, then so be it.
Just my opinion.

I only have one problem, and that's the stock bash plate doesn't match the quality of the bike. It isn't the actual plate, but the half-a** mounts. I called Yamaha customer service and told them they need to revisit it, it is not up to proper Yamaha Standards.
I'm still waiting for Flatland to build me mine. Like I said before, if the one on my WR is any example, I can't see how a better one can be found.

As has been said, Do communicate with Yamaha Finland about issues you personally have. Complaining about issues others have, that you are concerned you might have in the future is pissing in the wind. You need to be able to document the issues you wish to complain about or bring to their attention. Failing that, you will get no interest from Yamaha.

The headlight sub harness is not a given failure point. Some will have issues, most will probably not. I have 10k on mine and the sub harness and plugs show zero signs of heat or failure. I can not explain why some fail and others do not, but I can tell you that stressing about it and complaining to Yamaha will do nothing to help if you personally do not have this issue.

No bike is perfect. Some things we change to suit our personal needs or desires. Other things we upgrade in the hope of preventing a failure that might occur. This is our choice, not Yamaha's responsibility.

I agree Eric, but I do give my dealer a heads up on problems some seem to be having just so he knows. He likes to stay in front of things so he can talk to the Yamaha rep when he comes by the store and see if anything is going on with Yamaha with any such problem.
