hey my ST came with no helmet lock ...what the heck ?? anyway with an expensive SHOEI flip up helmet, not taking any chances when parked in public malls, got a small cable and carabinier Mastercraft padlock. Did Yamaha forget to include this important feature ?? :(

Yamaha didn't and still doesn't include them on the FJR1300 either. Not sure why they do not have at least a single helmet lock on the S.T. or FJR as most riders of these machines will no doubt wear a helmet and need a place to lock it on the bike when stopped.

Here's one possibility : http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/3864/203/

They can be purchased at various dealers and if you choose not to mount it as shown on the license plate bracket, the lock assemblies can be removed from the mounting plate and you may be able to mount it elsewhere.

Also, depending on the style of keys they have for the locks included, if they are similar to the Yamaha ignition key, you can have the locks re-keyed so you only need one key. (Worked for my FJR).

Those of us who didn't get OEM luggage will have 3 surplus locks that are keyed to the bike. Here's my challenge - somebody please come up with a way to make them work as a helmet lock...

The ones from Twisted Throttle may work, but seems doubtful the locks could be switched out? I guess a trip to a locksmith may be in order, to see what kind of "bodies" our spare cylinders could be fitted to?

I've had the "Helmet Guardian" before. Kinda neat. You can also remove the locks and place them elsewhere on the bike instead of on the license plate. Not sure if the cylinders could be re-keyed to match the ignition key - but would be nice.

I have a Helmet Guardian as well, on my Honda. It is a neat little item and generally works, but I found that the key has become VERY grumpy about going into the lock. Both sides. Maybe it's just mine, and maybe it has to do with the placement .... low on the bike and therefore sucking up a lot of dirt. But even after I clean them off and lube them, I still have to really push the key into the lock with some force. I don't use it much anymore. I dunno ..... I'm afraid that one of these days, I won't be able to get the key in, and of course, that will occur when my helmet is locked in place. Murphy. R
