Hi

Wanting to buy a S10. Have test ridden twice this week - if i can get happy that the fuelling can be sorted i have a deal on the table and you'll be seeing more of me. Fuelling aside i loved it.

Coming from a DL1000.

Also have a KTM freeride and a '76 TY250 in the UK and a KLR650 waiting for me in Cape Town :)

Off to ask my questions in the right place now!

What year S10 are you looking at? Reason I ask is that there really is not a fueling issue as such, but on the '14 and newer version I believe that has been addressed. What model and year did you test this week?

It was a '15 with 600 miles on the clock. Avon tyres had it for testing so i suspect they were hard miles.

CJS Racing are just up the road from you and managed to massively improve on my ECU Unleashed Flash, which was a massive improvement on the stock bike.

Many other options out there for generic flashes (i.e. post of your ECU) and you can buy a Flash Tune Harness and flash your own bike, but as you are right next door to CJS I would suggest you just go and get it sorted out properly by them.

Listen to Rasher, he has been there and done it, also many others have gone to CJS via Rasher's recommendations with great results, I too plan on sending mine in this month. But, I'm sure someone will know, is there a mileage restriction before getting it done, say 2-3k on the clock?

Doubt it, why should there be :question:

Your only fixing up what was done to get the bike through emissions regs otherwise Yamaha would have fuelled it properly to begin with.

This is what Chris told me about the Fuelling:

The o2 sensors are there for one purpose. That's to ruin your ride to keep Mr euro 3 happy.

With o2 sensors active you cannot richen up the lean spots in the 2 to 4000rpm range and fix your ride because the sensors will grass to the ecu and the ecu will take the fuel back out.

This is in simple terms. The sensors are actually narrow band sensors, they are slow and twitchy.

If the bike had real oxygen 6 wire wideband sensors like a bosch ecu with real self learning capabilities you could simply go to the target AFR map set it to what you wanted and the ecu would learn and adapt that new value in ten mins riding

This is how the car reflashers can get you a reasonable ride without seeing a dyno .
When I was there he also explained about some of the variances in injector flow rates (and other stuff) that means the manufacturers (and flash companies for that matter) maps are going to be better on some bikes than others - even before you take into account the other restraints such as Mr Euro 3.

This is why given the choice / opportunity I would always go with a Dyno setup, and also try to find a tuner who can do each cylinder separately as they can also vary quite a bit.
