Am looking for grip options which are the same length as stock. Please DO NOT tell me what you are using unless they are damn close to the stock length. I measure the stock length as 5.20 inches end to end and 4.90 inches for the actual grip area. The 120 mm (4.70 inches) which are readily available by the boatload don't cut it for my pudger fat (I mean manly) sized hands.

Just got these, the factory sent them to me free to try. Since then I got my grip covers and am not ready to pull off what I have now since they are working. If you want to try these (have them, don't want them back) I would send them to you as long as you promise to put them on and post a review of them like I promised the factory I would. Just send me your address info if interested. You may notice that they have end caps that are removable, I removed the one from the hand grip that I have the tape measure next to.

I appreciate the gracious offer, but I am going to pass. I really dont think I would like ergonmically (read non round) grips. I'm a bit of hooligan by riding style and quite honestly, I am change between standing and sitting quite often....which I believe requires a round grip to keep consistency in feel. I think the ergo grips would be a great idea on something where one basically remains in one postion most of the time. Thanks again for the offer, but I have to pass.

Cheers!

I looked for them in the Dennis Kirk catalog and found nothing. So I stopped into a local dirtbike store that has been helpful in the past. They were able to find, in one of their catalogs, a grip that worked. They're the same Pro-Grip brand gel grips as I have always used on other bikes, the price was the same $10 that I've paid for the standard length, and they look and feel the same too, but they are 135mm long instead of the more usual 125mm. They did have to be ordered - they weren't in stock. But they do exist, and they arrived quickly.

Hi Katherine - I was going to ask you what you'd found, i remembered you were looking... I have the Pro-grips which I have on all my bikes. They are a little short but it hasn't bothered me till this weekend. It was colder and wearing heavier gloves, there's not enough room on the grip when I have the Go Cruise throttle lock in place. I mean it works, but not comfortable...

So if you can come up with the part number for the long pro-grips, that'd be great!

The ones I have are the model 698. They are as long as stock; in fact if you're not careful they stretch to be a hair longer. But they squish in to fit perfectly.

In looking for options for a 135mm grip, I found these. Apart from the dorky "Superbike" carved into them, they look like they might be ok, if they are relatively soft. Anybody had them?

Also, they have one really nice feature - "Rip-resistant grip end helps in tank-slapping situations" - nice to know I wouldn't have to worry about the bloody tank-slappers any more after fitting these...

these look like grips I had way way back in the day. If they are the same ones I was thinking of they were very hard rubber.

There are a lot of crap out there that may feel better at first grip, but not be worth a crap in long run. Foam grips get slippery over time, then you need to maintain a much tighter grip to keep control. Grip puppys and the like? No advantage to having bigger diameter grips, waste of time. The stock grip is a good grip. Can't help other than saying to leave the grips alone, which is no help I suppose. No one thinks the manufacturers put any time and effort into fitting anything at all that actually works? The grips are same as the seat I guess, Yamaha pay 1000 testers to test these then they determine which is worst, then that is what they fit, then they offer as accessories the "good" parts. Maybe Yamaha offer the "good grips" as accessory add ons? :D
Yeah Ron, I'd like to like the stock grips, but they are too skinny and hard for my liking. They take a lot of effort to hold on to. If they have done a lot of testing and people like them, well, it must have been with Japanese-sized hands.

OK after a lot of searching, it seems like there are not many choices for 135mm grips. I like the progrip 614's that I have now, but they are 125mm. One thing I like about them are the 3 grooves for safety wire. I find when the grips get hot they turn jello-like, and the wire stops them from moving around.

I couldn't find a version in 135mm with wire grooves, so ended up with the same progrip 698 that elizilla bought. Hopefully they will be as comfortable as the 614 and not have the jello problem. I may have to find a better way of gluing them to the symtec heater elements.

got my hot grips at lockitt with variable heat-troller. found issue with mounting the rheostat as I ordered a panel mount version, but as I have a weather proof case for my gps that is plenty deep, I mounted the control on the side of the case, 4" up from my left hand, and the 'power on' led is visible beside my garmin 1490. the grips are exactly the same length as factory, install is straight forward. order the recommended epoxy as it has just a slightly higher melting point than the grips will ever deliver, making it easily removable should a problem with the grip occur. the grips have a lifetime warranty, I believe, and are made in the U.S. of A.
