Givi trekker racks install question

Hello All,

Thinking about getting Givi Trekker panniers with the Givi racks. I would like to install the racks myself since the dealer wants to charge me $ 150 to do so. I have never done an install like that before. Can somebody tell me how difficult this is to do and how long it should take? Do I need any special tools?

Thank you for your input!

I helped a friend do his Givi's. Not terribly difficult, just get yourself a good set of Tamper proof Torx sockets.

I just installed the Givi PL 367 racks on mine and it was VERY easy. 3 bolts either side of the bike. Save yourself $150!!!!!

I have fitted many Givi kits to my bikes in the last couple of decades. They are easy to fit and come with easy to follow instructions - the fasteners are allen bolts, never seen a Torx bolt with a Givi kit.

Just do up each fastener a few turns until you have them all in place so you have plenty of wiggle room to align things. Then nip them up and go for a ride.

One more question since you seem to have plenty of experience with Givi panniers: how tough are they? Have you ever dropped the bike with them on? If so how did they fare?

Thanks for your input.

I've been lucky enough not to drop a bike myself, yet.

I have seen plenty that have been dropped or show evidence of damage. It is rare for the damage to be more than superficial. The frames are robust and the cases durable. My ancient E45 pannier has some battle scars where it is been scuffed on walls, hit by ladders and children when in the garage. I would say that most people that have dropped a bike with a Givi fitted have been glad they had them as the pannier took the hit and survived rather than an expensive bike panel.

Spares are available from givi if something does wear out but I've never needed to buy anything for the E36 and E45 boxes used over the years.

I just purchased a set of K22's for my '14 ES. These will be my everyday cases. I'll use my E41's for traveling.

I installed the Givi sidecase mounts on mine in less than 20 minutes. Use Loctite.

Well, it does take a lot of time and cups of coffee to check off the inventory list and read the instructions, working out where each bit goes.

Once you have done that, it takes 20-30 minutes of wrench twiddling.

Well, I did it! Got the Givi trekker panniers and installed the racks myself. I didn't do too badly for a tool-challenged person. The red S10 looks really sharp with those panniers! Actually, I think the red one is the new blue...and faster too... :))
