I'm sorry that I have to ask this.. I know it has to be in theses forms some place but I have searched and searched and can't find a clear cut answer..

I'm finally pulling the trigger and purchasing a top case for my 2015 S10 after 3 long months without one. I do 99.9% on road commuting (I know poor S10 won't see the dirt) and need a solid secure top box to lock my stuff up in (GoPros, phone, ham equipment, ect). While the Outback is expensive it looks to be the best bet for me.

So my question, are there other equal boxes that would do as well security wise on just the street vs dirt? I know nothing is thief proof, but making it hard will keep my stuff safe at work (along with the 6 building cameras). I'm pretty sure a lot of the cost comes from the Outbacks ability to take a beating while off road. And #2 is the GIVI SRA2101 the plate I would need to be able to mount it to my 2015 factory mount? I've read that I just need to take off the colored plastic looking piece and then the 2101 should just bolt on? I really have no reason to ever need to remove the box, I plan on ridding with it 24x7.

Thanks and I apologize for asking a question that I'm sure has been asked 2 million times... We need some stickys around here!! :) ::014::

I have a Givi Trekker outback on my KTM so cannot help with S10 fittings, but I do like the case.

I can only compare it to the SW Motech Trax box I had on my S10 and the plastic Givi boxes I have used on other bikes and it stacks up well against both of those looking a bit tougher than the SW top box, it looks and feels tougher and has a better lock mechanism....

....but none of this will really tell you how easy it would be to break into, or how well it will survive a crash. On the first point I think any box would be easy to rip off a bike if someone really wanted it, they may make a bit of noise or need a big screwdriver / crow bar, but 10 seconds later I think most boxes will be open or off - where I live / ride the main risk would be casual scum-bag walk-by-theft, but your top box is a more difficult target than a car window and they have no idea what is in it so IMO the chances of a top box crime is slim / un-avoidable (if they really want it)

As for crashing, I think top boxes have an easier time than panniers and these are narrow(ish) which helps them to not dig in in a topple, no way of being sure of how well any box would work, my guess is the more serious off-road kit such as Metal mule might be a bit better if you plan on crashing a lot.

If your asking if the Givi Outback is a decent box that looks good and works well the answer is yes

I don't think we have had much discussion on that particular top box here, which may be why you didn't find much with search. I haven't used it myself (don't currently run a top box), but I have used Givi in the past on my two FJRs, the first while commuting just north of you throughout OC, LA, Ventura and SB. Never had an issue with them, and wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

That said, both Jesse and Bumot make some impressive looking top boxes that may also fill your needs.

I've got the 42L Outback top box and am well pleased with it. It seems ruggedly built and has a beefy latching mechanism. Yes, you will need the SRA2101 plate and it does replace the factory plastic rack. I'm very happy with mine. Also consider shopping at motostorm.it. Even with shipping from Europe I saved more than $100

Thanks for the help guys! I'll check out the Jeese and Bumot boxes as well. I'm not set on the Givi by any means, just kind of seemed that was the route to go.

Thanks for the pictures WJBertrand, I now know what my bike will look like one day down the road, I also have the red one. I was planning on getting the back vs the silver so its good to see what it would look like on the red bike.
